No bag

I can't play What's In Your Bag because I no longer have one. I don't really ever go anywhere but if/when I do, I take my phone only. Very rarely, I also take a wallet. I carry a credit card and a $20 in between my phone and it's case. But, mostly, I use the phone to pay for stuff.

I have a very crisp, clear photo of my driver's license on my phone as well as my insurance card. The car registration is in the glove box.

If I'm going on foot and will be gone for more than 20 minutes, I might put chap stick and tissues in my pocket. If I'm gone for a day, I will probably add a tiny tin of cough pills. But, really, that's it.

I used to be obsessed with bags, hand bags, wallets, purses. I had an embarrassing variety. For a while I was obsessed with making them. I still have some even though I never use them. They will go to Goodwill soon, I hope.

It looks like we're in for at least a couple more weeks of omacron-itis.o There won't be any real numbers until tomorrow because of the holiday but trends make it look like a couple more weeks of my staying inside and going nowhere. The list of places I would like to go is growing. But, for now, I'm ok with going nowhere.

I will be doing kitchen stuff today. I want to make some more breakfast casseroles. I ate the last one today. I think I'll make a bunch and freeze some. And then cookies. The ones I found in the freezer yesterday were from my early batches before I had perfected the recipe. I need some good ones.

At least standing in the kitchen is a bit better/different than sitting in a chair all day. So there's that.

Biggie is currently sitting in my lap. On my arm, actually, keeping an eye out for the birds. It's not quite daylight yet so he can't really see much.

Oh. Twitter just told me that on this day, the Northridge earthquake happened in 1994. Weirdly I remember exactly where I was when I heard about it. I was on the corner of 1st and King street waiting for the bus to work. I was working in the middle of town at what was then, the IBM Building (I don't think it actually even has a name now). The bus stop is long gone. In fact there hasn't been bus service on 1st Avenue in years. Funny how some things just memory stick.

Watched: Pivoting (Fox) - I had the first two episodes recorded and settled in. But, I killed it after 15 mins. B Positive, 60 Minutes, Ask This Old House.

How interesting how you remember exactly where you were when the Northridge earthquake hit. I remember exactly where I was too! I was at an art/collage workshop and I named my art piece Faultline. I still have it, how strange you mention that! ..... I agree with you about the bags/purses. I have one that sits in the kitchen and when I go somewhere, half the time I just take my phone and ID out of it. You are so smart to just take a photo of your driver's license. I am going to do that today! :)

I probably could do without much that's in my purse. I suspect that carrying this stuff is more of a "security blanket" than essential. Yet - I'm surprised how necessary some of these "little-used items" are, like my glasses repair kit, or bandaids! When I need them, I NEED THEM! I also admit, I'm still in the "technology dark ages" and use cash and credit cards, so a wallet that holds these things remains necessary.

I don't quite trust my phone for payment yet, otherwise I'd ditch the wallet.

I'd always assumed there was a limit on Apple Pay, but the internet says not. I'm surprised! Presumably Google Pay is the same?

I don't carry a bag any more either! I have a similar "stuff things in coat pockets" strategy now. I was in LA during the Northridge earthquake - it was my first year at Uni. I was so tired I tried to go back to sleep afterward even though I distinctly remember looking out the window and going, "...no, ground should not be doing that, feel a bit sick, oh it stopped and the building is still standing". I had to be shouted at through my dorm room door to get up and evacuate the building. O.O

I'm struggling on with Pivoting and planning to give the second ep a go despite itching to kill it at the point you did. I like to cut comedy starring women some slack, II like Ginnifer Goodwin, and it resonates with me having lost a close friend in 2020, but they're not making it easy.

I have a clearer memory of the 1989 Bay Area quake (Loma Prieta?) than of Northridge, but that's because I had just settled in to watch Game 3 of the World Series... oops. ([livejournal.com profile] jwg was out at game time, and news didn't spread as rapidly then as it does now, so when he got home maybe half an hour later he asked me "What's happening?" – meaning in the game – and was puzzled by my response: "They don't know.")

I was taken aback to note in the Boston Globe's "Today in History" column that there was a major earthquake in Kobe, Japan, a year to the day after the Northridge quake.

You must have gone to work really early in the morning. I remember the Northridge earthquake waking me up - and I had my alarm set for 5:17 so it was earlier than that. I lived about a mile from the section of I-10 that collapsed. All the power was out and I discovered the flashlight on my nightstand had dead batteries. I went out to my car to get another flashlight (using a light stick to see the way.) Several of my neighbors were out and we shared ice cream (which is always the first thing to eat when you don't know when the power will be back.)

I was really annoyed that my company did not shut down. But there was power down there in El Segundo and I could get on the website that reported seismic information. The guy in the office next to mine told me everything in his kitchen had broken except for one bottle of scotch.

Gosh i miss being able to use my phone for payments. Unfortunately even though mine was set up for tap in Canada, the moment i got to the US it failed to work anywhere. Still some kinks to work out in globalizing the system, i suppose.

So am I reading this correctly? You go out with just a photo of DL on your phone? Is this also what you do when you actually go out into the world in your car?

Wow. That blows my mind. Do you have a photo of both the front and the back of your DL on your phone?
