There is no way I could care less about the super bowl. But, since most of the world doesn't give a shit about baseball, I get the drift. And it only matters in my world really in my Twitter feed which will today be filled with stuff I don't understand or care about. Yesterday, I was listening to NPR and three rap? artists or hip hop or something - I'd never heard of any of them - were discussing the half time show. "Our world - really everyone's world - will never be the same after that show." They had a lot of passion but I'm thinking their world might be a bit smaller than they think. Heck, I know mine is.

My day will be way more regular. Laundry. And a trip to the Amazon drop off place to do a return. And the installation of the latest bluetooth transmitter. I can't seem to find one that works like the one that was stolen. All I need is to have it engage when I turn the car on without my intervention. It might be time to dig out the Auto Echo. I had to abandon it when I got my new phone because they did not get along. Maybe now they have mended their ways.

And speaking of baseball (ha!) It looks like we will again have another year of fucked up season. COVID screwed up 2020 and a fair bit of 2021. But now the players and owners are working together to ensure that 2022 is a hot mess as well. Spring training is supposed to start this week. It will not. And, it's looking more ever day, like the regular season will not start on time either. Assholes.

On the up side, it will save me a pretty penny in cable fees. Ordinarily, I'd be upgrading my current package to include the preseason games that were to have started in exactly two weeks. No need now.

Yesterday I watched another episode of UK Ghosts (HBO). And a couple of episodes of The Fall (Britbox). Still reading The Snow Killer by Ross Greenwood.

Typically I'm interested in the commercials and the half time show and am nearly always interested in the game. I'm glad the hip hop community is getting their show but am happily white and old and a curmudgeon and not hip or hop. And not crypto. So the halftime show and the commercials will pass me by. I can focus on the game.

I too am hoping the various MLB parties can come to an agreement so that we can have a baseball season. Didn't anybody learn anything from 1994?

My Dad loved to watch both baseball and football — in fact, I think he liked watching football better because he played it when he was a teenager. I certainly had to go to enough football games when I was in the high school band (same high school as my father). So I will watch the Super Bowl again, in the 40th year after his death. (Thank goodness he taught me the basic rules of the game when I was a kid.)

Unfortunately what they learned from 1994 is that all the fans who cried a plague on both houses and swore they'd never watch baseball again... went back to watching baseball when it started up again, because, after all, they're baseball fans.

I really hope they get their act together. I don't pretend to understand either side's positions, but my general take is that the players, who have "won" all of the last several labor standoffs, are overly optimistic that the owners will decide that they have more to lose.

I think the only reason I know that SportsBallz things are happening soon is thanks to grocery store ads.🤣 I logged in to our store site to start prepping my delivery cart for next week and all the ads were snack trays and sporting treats. *lol*
I'll be ignoring Superb Owl as usual, and probably playing outside as long as it's not too cold out there.

No Super Bowl love here either. I also prefer baseball, lifelong Cubs fan.

I was invited to hang out with the Petit crew at The Village Pub to watch the game... Pierre invited me as a formality, but he followed with, "But I'm sure you don't want to come." I just nodded my head. A fellow baker shockingly asked me if I didn't watch football. I told him I might be okay with watching the game if it was recorded ahead of time so we could fast-forward through the commercials. Jaws were dropped. "YOU DON'T WANT TO WATCH THE COMMERCIALS??" Nobody could comprehend my point of view. Heck, I ain't going to even listen to NPR tomorrow, because I'm sure they'll be talking about the commercials.

I don't give a flip about the super bowl either. When we lived in TX, I had a friend who always threw a party and I would go for the purpose of watching the commercials and for fellowship. Now that I can watch the commercials online afterwards I REALLY don't give a flip.

My parents were always huge baseball fans, and baseball is the only sport I actually understand. And it's the only sport I've seen in person in the past 15 years, lol.

It’ll be the first year I’m not pulling an all nighter to watch the super bowl in years. I’m kind of over the NFL

If they got Weird Al Yankovic to do the halftime show, I might consider watching it. Otherwise, I could give a toot about anything Sportsball-related.

I didn't even know it was on until i read the headlines on my morning newsletter about how this was the first Superbowl with a hip-hop halftime show, and i was like wtf is this shit, this isn't news. But then i thought about how i would feel if some house or techno DJs programmed the whole show - in the US of all places - and i think that would be pretty awesome. So i changed my mind. I'm happy for hip-hop fans that they feel their music has hit a new level of mainstream in the US. Of course, even if my music was highlighted in the Superbowl i still wouldn't bother watching, so perhaps i am a bad fan.

My instincts are the same as yours. I don't anticipate any breakthrough in the lockout any time soon.

There is great celebration about the hip hop half time and I enjoyed watching it, coming from the culture, but I think the folks that believe that the world will not be the same after the half time show are completely wrong. How foolishly optimistic they are to think that just under 14 minutes of air time matters one bit.
