I'm home after a wonderful, fun filled weekend in Los Angeles. I'm beat but happy. Fortunately, I had the foresight to snag tomorrow as yet another vacation day so I can piddle around tonight and catch up tomorrow and skip work until tomorrow.

Betty and Jake are hanging out trying to figure out if I'm really back because this means that Sherry and Lee from downstairs won't be coming back to over feed and entertain them. They don't look particularly happy about it.

The trip down there was a bit of a do as I had to pick the one weekend in the decade when LA had weather. I had to change planes in Salt Lake City and when I got there I learned that they connection was pretty much toast. The plan to LA was coming from LA and hadn't gotten there from St. Louis yet. But, after about an hour of no news they found new plane and we ended up only being an hour and a half late. And, Jon checked before he left home. So all was good. But it was pouring rain in LA and the people there were stunned. It was funny.

We spent Saturday driving all around. I have a hard time grasping LA - it's too big and too convoluted. I don't understand where the Valley is and how Orange County fits in and on and on. Jon spread out a map for me and walked me through it on the living room floor first and then we got into the car and he drove me around. It was really interesting. I'm still pretty confused about the Valley and Hollywood but I have a lock on Bell Aire and Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

Jon and I both love the books of Michael Connelly. His characters all live, work and play in LA. So Jon took me around to most of where the live, work and play. It had just finished Chasing the Dime where one chracter is instructred by another to go into an ice cream store and buy a soda and walk out the front door and hold it up at a certain time. Once she could see him (from her apartment across the street) she would decide whether or not to give him the address and let him come up. We saw the ice cream store and her apartment. It was very cool.

Jon and Page live in North Hollywood and everything in the world is within easy walking distance - grocery stores, drug stores, dry cleaners, video rentals, restaurants and cafes. It's just wonderful.

Now I'm going to go toss our the junk snail mail and maybe catch up on a little TV. I don't think I'm going to be staying up too late tonight...
