Such a perfect game
Apr. 16th, 2022 08:28 amGetting there was a challenge. A full hour before they would be allowed in, all the gates around the stadium were packed with people. My entrance is past two of those gates and then through a mob queue for the will call window. It was like trying to drive through a people gauntlet! Unreal. Most of the time, in past years, I go early and have to weave through maybe a handful of people - total.
Inside I was met by the Diamond Club staff - most of whom were folk from old and it was like being welcomed by family. Hugs and high fives everywhere. My old sales guy - Mike - got kicked upstairs to management this past year. I was mid-meal when he plopped down in the chair across from me and we had a wonderful chat. I was not expecting to even see him. He also answered all my questions - yes, the Diamond Club is sold out this year except for 4 seats. The outside next year will get new chairs but the configuration (my seat) will remain the same.
And I met the new guy, Tylor, who appears to be about 12 but is very kind and gracious if maybe not the fun dude, Mike. (It was Tylor's first game so he gets lots of slack here.)
The food seemed a notch above and I asked. Yep. New chef in town. And new dessert person. Look at this beautiful display.

And that was about half. There were also cakes and pies and - always - ice cream.
They had the right about of pre-game hoopla and they did it nicely. I did learn that the game start time of 6:42 was because it was Jackie Robinson night and his number was... 42! Doh.
We played the Houston Astros. So there were lots of loud and vigorous BOOOOOOOs (The Astros were caught cheating a few years ago and there are still players from the cheating team on their roster and they really got the boos. It was funny.)
Our pitcher, who is a great guy, had a really hard game the last time he pitched. But, last night, he totally recovered. The Astros could not hit anything he provided.
But, we could hit and we did. The Astros got one run off of our otherwise excellent relief pitchers. The final score was 11-1. Take that, you cheating cheaters!!
It was really a magnificent game and a fabulous way to start the season at home.

Oh and I learned that the really nice woman sitting to my right had the same package I do so I'll be seeing her and her father who was with her at every game. She seemed an excellent seat neighbor. The couple to my left were one-timers so I'm guessing whoever owns those seats, mostly resells them. This is also fun as I get new people every game and they will be so excited about their one time Diamond Club experience. Best of all seat neighborhoods.
My scooter nearly ran out of juice before I got home which is very odd as the battery was fully charged before I left. The battery is at least five years old. It hasn't had that much use but it is old. So I'm hoping that's the issue. New battery arrives on Thursday. Next game is Friday.
The seats at the ballpark are low-ish. And I was up and down and up and down and up and down as the people from the middle of the row came and went. Plus maybe I slept funny but this morning my left hip was screaming in pain when I got out of bed. It got better as I moved around and it seems ok now but OUCH.
I had intended to skip the pool this morning anyway but no way could I have made it to the bus stop.
Today I will try to use it - up/down and walking around here. I have lots of laundry to do and I might take the scooter out and just test it around the block.
So busy busy busy but all in the glow of a fabulous first real baseball game in two years and the best one for sure.

Date: 2022-04-17 02:54 pm (UTC)Carlos Correa, who used to be on the Astros, now plays for the Twins, and he too got soundly booed at Fenway on Friday, both during introductions and each time he came to bat. (Likewise Gary Sanchez, whose unpardonable sin is that until this year he has played for the Yankees.)
