[personal profile] jo, I'm reading on Twitter that the reason Toronto let Robby Ray go was because he refuses to be vaccinated! They are screwing around with our pitcher rotation so that he ends up not being scheduled while we are there.

I knew your excellent COVID laws would reveal a snake in our grass but I did not know it was going to be one you gave us!!!

Wild.

Huh! Had not heard that. In fact, during one of the games yesterday, our commentators were talking about upcoming series, mentioned the Mariners coming to town and a chance for fans to "reunite with Robbie Ray". I know the Jays' management have referenced being unable to trade for/pursue certain some players because of their vaccination status, but they've never named names. It was my understanding that they had made an offer to Ray, however. They didn't make one to Steve Matz, and he's definitely unvaxxed (and with the Mets).

The Red Sox have three players – all pitchers – who are unvaccinated (and if they have any plans to change that, they haven't said so). One of them is our supposed ace, Chris Sale, who is in any case on the 60-day IL recovering from a fractured rib. The other two had to skip the recent visit to Toronto; there's another such trip coming up at the end of June, and it's unclear whether Sale will have been activated by then, but it seems that once again the Sox will have one hand tied behind their back.

The local press – and one columnist in particular – has been rather harsh in their criticism of these three players (justifiably, IMO).
