So... this morning I'm catching up - computer stuff - posting book reviews, adding album page so my friend Jon can see pix of Betty, updating anti-virus software, just generally doing harmless computer shit when ATTACK!! All of a sudden my IE home page was changed and I had a toolbar called Xupiter. I did a little search and that Xupiter shit was all over my brand new computer!!! Something I touched this morning turned to shit.

Fortunately I had time to screw with it so I googled around and discovered that Ad-Aware is the best fix so I got the latest version and read all the forum tips (run the sucker from safe mode) and obliterated it. Ad-Aware found it in 22 different places on my computer!

I usually hear about these things before they get me but I had never heard of this piece of crap before. Wild. GRRRR It makes me not happy. But, it's gone now, happily.

It was my fault. I had pretty much enabled all Active-X stuff and forgot to switch it back to un-enable or prompt. Google turned up a lot of conversation about it. I'm just so amazed that this is the first I've ever heard of it. I feel so out of the loop.

I love my my ZoneAlarm Pro. I can use it to cut out all sorts of things by specific sites.

I used to use Zone Alarm (the freeby one) and I did like it but then I got XP and discovered that the firewall that was included with it passed all of the same bullet tests as my Zone Alarm so I just started using it. I should probably look into ZA Pro.

XP firewall bombs my tests, because it does not stop OUTBOUND traffic. ZA does. ZA Pro also includes add-stopper, third-party cookie blockers, and selective blocking against ip address ranges.

If you do add it, make SURE the XP firewall is off. ZA and XP firewall don't get along. ;)

Interesting. Any clue how it arrived on your computer? Certainly didn't come with Adele. One of the joys of Macs is we are pretty much immune to this crap..
