One of those writing prompt question lists currently circulating asks if you've ever walked out of a movie. I sure have. But the best experience was the second to last movie I ever went to in a theater. It was probably around 2018. I decided I wanted to see a movie and there was an interesting sounding one playing across the street from one of my favorite restaurants.

The theater was oddly very empty. I sat through the premovie junk and then finally got to the actual movie. About 5 minutes in, I realized it was a propaganda piece for anti abortionists.

I not only walked out, I demanded my money back and they gave it to me quickly and easily and with an apology. I was then kinda mad at myself for never having asked for it back before.

The movie I went to a theater to see after that was the first Downton Abbey movie. It was a horrible experience all around. Crowded, sticky floor, recliner chair that never got comfortable, sound that was too loud (not to even mention no closed captioning) and, the actual movie was not that great either.

I cannot even imagine what movie would drag me back into a theater now. Even without COVID. So far, none have come even remotely close.

It just dawned on me that the next week of Mariner games will be an LJ/Dreamwidth matchup. First we play [personal profile] jo 's Blue Jays and then we play [personal profile] rsc and [personal profile] jwg 's (and also my nephews') Red Sox.

It looks like we're headed for a warm up towards the end of this week. It still looks like it's not yet going to get into the 70's so not that bad, I hope. With only one source for outside air and no cross ventilation, this place tends to heat up rather quickly. So I may be setting up the air conditioner sooner rather than later. But, I just checked my log and see that I had to set it up in early May for the past few years so this year is nicely better regardless.

The Mariner game is at 10:30 this morning and while it's on, I will be cleaning the kitchen.

I do not regret for on minute letting my house cleaner go. But I have not been as vigilant as I should be about filling in the gap. Especially in the kitchen. The cabinet fronts and floor and counter and every little spot needs cleaning so that's today's job.

But first I need more coffee.

Are your Mariners on the East Coast for these games?

The Rays beat the Blue Jays today and took the series, but my understanding is they're in a slump.

I don't think I've ever walked out of a movie theater, but I have gone to movies in theaters extremely rarely even pre-pandemic (and now not at all). I certainly would have walked out of the one you described . . .

When I put in my midlife-crisis big screen, projector and sound system at home, I thought I would still go to the movies sometimes. I have no idea why I thought that, given that not liking to go to the movies is the reason I wanted the big screen at home experience in the first place. As well as all the reasons you mention (except the anti-abortion one, wtf America), I used to go to about thirty movies every year during the Auckland Film Festival, which is in the middle of winter, and without exception I always got the flu.

But it just seemed impossible to think that an experience I'd had all my life would stop just like that. It did, though. I've never been back. And I don't miss it whatsoever.

I go to movies in theatres largely as part of film festivals. But also to see odd things that won't be streaming soon, if ever. (Those are often documentaries.)

And how could you leave me off your Red Sox list? Harumph!
