murphy's law of shopping
May. 28th, 2022 10:43 amI walked all the way over to Uwjimaya which is usually nearly out of range for me (it's not that far unless you are fat, lazy and out of shape) and shopped and then went over to Daiso next door. I got a few things and came home just as it started to rain. The 57 degree temperature was perfect for me and the clouds helped. Part of my issue of walking is sun. When it's out, and glaring, I just can't. When it's hot, I just can't. (And, yes, you can translate that can't to won't.) There probably won't be too many more 'can' days coming up but if there are, I may give it another go. That's a lot of steps for me.
When I got home, I opened the fridge to get a swig of V8 Juice and all of a sudden remembered why I wanted to go to Daiso and what I forgot to get there! DOH
I want a plastic thing with a top that is easy to guzzle tomato juice out of. They had a ton of different ones. I got none. But, then I thought, I'll just wash out one of my Diet Dr. Pepper bottles and use it. It's what I use for orange juice so why didn't I even think of it last week?
No fruit sandos yet at the grocery. They usually don't put out stuff like that until 10:30 or 11. No biggie. I got a nice little cake. My other thing was tamari sauce. Dinnerly woke me up to tamari sauce and I wanted to see the various kinds available. It was a little bit of the whole aisle that was soy sauce. And now I haz it.
Also my favorite backpack is now off to Goodwill. It was great for taking to the games but it does not now meet the transparent rules. It's a crappy backpack otherwise. So, hopefully, someone at Goodwill will love it again.
And my steps. It's me and the chair now. Biggie didn't even bother to wake up to welcome me home. He's got quite the attitude.

Date: 2022-05-29 03:03 am (UTC)Kidding of course. There's a Daiso attached to the Mitsuwa in our next city and you KNOW I'll be all over it!
Mmmm, tamari sauce. I can't wait to have sauces again! No good while traveling.
What are your favorite foods to get at Asian grocery stores?
Because I visit while traveling, I can't get a lot of what I want (mostly vegetables and stuff from the freezer section). But I love to try new fruits and vegetables where possible, and always try to find onigiri or some cleverly-packaged, ready to eat thing :)

Date: 2022-05-29 03:11 am (UTC)Daiso now has actual corn on the cob vacuumed packed. I should have gotten a picture for you. It's hanging right there with their other snacks.
For staples I always have use oyster sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, teriyaki sauce and fish sauce. I add in others like the tarmari as I get inspired.
This particular store has exceptional produce - regular and some really odd shit. But all very high quality. So if I'm ever out of any produce, I wait until I get there to get it.
I'm very big on their premade salads and noodle dishes and poke bowls and, now, of course, fruit sandos! They are now starting to poke ingredients in tiny small bits so it's easy to build your own and I do that a lot.
And some frozen stuff. Like today I got some random dumplings to fill out my leftovers. Yum.
I should make you a photo album of my next trip. I will.
I hope you are feeling at least a little better tonight.

Date: 2022-05-29 03:58 am (UTC)Whuuut, vacuum packed corn on the cob? Like, ready to eat, shelf stable? WILD.
This is why I love these stores.
That and the packaging things for 1-2 people. I love how realistic they are. I would love to shop at more Indian or Russian or Hispanic stores, but everything seems designed for like twenty people or to be used in the creation of a dish for twenty people. In Asia there are a lot of singles and couples shopping, and I love that they accommodate that.
So, produce and their premade stuff, and fruit sandos! Excellent choices indeed! :D
I would love to try every single thing in the freezer section, especially at H-Mart.
Thank you! And thanks for interacting with me a bit today, it was an extra hard day and I actually needed some interaction :) I'm feeling better NOW, haha

Date: 2022-05-29 04:21 am (UTC)( omg my autocorrect just called the store Dildo. I may never see it the same way again.)
I never thought about that servings. Japanese serving sizes. Makes perfect sense now that I do. I'm not a fan of Indian food and have only a narrow stroganoff view of Russian food but I get it.
