SteveTheLawyer
Jun. 2nd, 2022 02:40 pmIt looks like SteveTheLawyer is going to be a running theme in this journal for a while.
---------------------
Steve, the lawyer, called again. He's already been to the house. He told me this morning that Bill would never let him go inside the house. He had asked Bill if there were things he wanted saved and passed on to me or his friend, Sam or anyone else and Bill said no. There was nothing of value. "He said it was all trash." But, turns out, Steve didn't believe him.
Steve says the house is a horrible mess. He says it's full of dust and just stacks of stuff. And while there is electricity, there's no light "I couldn't even really see how bad it was but it was bad." Stacks of books and DVD's and ammunition. (yikes!) "I'm pretty sure the carpet and curtains are original."
Steve really likes to talk. He tells me the same things over and over again. He's worried that there might be something in the house that I want - a family memento. "I don't know how sentimental you are about stuff like that." I assured him that on a scale of 1-10 where 10 was very sentimental, I was a -5. He's talking now about getting a church group in to clean out the house for cheap.
Oh and Bill's truck was not at the house. So, hopefully, at the hospital?? Steve has that on his list, too.
I asked about Sam. Steve says Sam sounds old. Way older than Bill. "And he started crying while we talked." I did remember to get his name and phone number.
Oh and clearly Steve was driving the entire time he was talking. That makes me so twitchy. Oklahoma is weird.
When I was little, my grandparents moved from Oklahoma City to Edmond. It felt really far away to me. Also Norman, where my parents went to college, also felt very far from the neighborhood where both sets of my grandparents and Bill and his parents all lived. But, Steve works in Edmond and Sam lives in Norman so I fired up Google maps and heck, they are all way closer to each other than they used to be!!

Date: 2022-06-03 12:50 am (UTC)I totally understand why your cousin didn't want others to know. That's what I would do as well. I wouldn't want anyone to worry and leave instructions as well. Sam seems to taking it very hard. Hearing from you might help him. It's difficult being so far away. Will Bill, your brother, try to go to Oklahoma?

Date: 2022-06-03 12:56 am (UTC)Sam's going to have to do without hearing from me. At least for now. I do not know him.
It's not difficult being far away. There's nothing I need to be there for. No need for Bill to go to Oklahoma. SteveTheLawyer can handle everything.
