I'm dressed and ready for the phone to ring. SteveTheLawyer said they (he and SamTheFriend) would facetime me when they got to my cousin's house this morning. So I wanted to make sure I was presentable at least from the waist up.
Of course, I was actually on the toilet when he called! hahaha - He called from the highway on the way to the house. SamTheFriend is already there working away.
Steve is one of those people who says something and then repeats it a million times. In our very first phone call, he presented his ideas of how things would or might proceed and he has repeated it now in every single call. It's kind of a nervous tic. Hopefully as he gets more comfortable talking to me, he will pair it down some. He did say yesterday that he hoped I didn't mind his using me to vent and to remember Bill. He was clearly very fond of Bill.
The actual updates are from Sam. He says that Bill's TV, there in the living room, hasn't worked in years. Apparently, Bill got pissed off at Cox Cable a long time ago and just canceled them. The computer has never met the internet (which does not surprise). Bill had a Kindle! which sure does surprise. He was a voracious reader always but would not touch a paperback if that was the only option. He bought hard back books only and a lot on the day of release. So the Kindle thing does surprise me.
When their little family was still a viable concern, my uncle conscripted the garage for his workshop. It was mainly a dark pile of tools and parts and junk. My guess is that is exactly what it is today. And SamTheFriend is in there now trying to unravel it.
Steve said they would call back once he got to the house. So I'm on hold.
I went to sleep last night thinking that I needed to find a SteveTheLawyer of my own. I think I'm going to ask my finance guy. He has a lot of small town-ish contacts and also probably experience in dealing with dead people's money. Good plan.
I have a couple of small errands I'd like to run today but they can also wait until tomorrow if need be.
The baseball game is at 1 today and that's about it for plans.

Date: 2022-06-04 03:52 pm (UTC)Pat and I have our unofficially adopted daughter. She's going to be the executor of my estate (it's in my will), and Pat has me, but if I'm gone it will fall to her as well.
It's really important to plan, even if we don't like thinking about these things.

There are definitely people, called "senior relocation specialists", who handle things like packing stuff, shipping some of it off to relatives, and donating, selling, or discarding the rest. Mainly for people who are downsizing and moving into assisted care or something of the sort, but they do death-related stuff as well -- my brother hired some of them after Mom died during the COVID lockdown in 2020.
