Last night's Mariners game against Boston was The Baseball Game Of The Season or more. I honestly do have sympathy for every Boston fan - particularly those in other time zones. The game lead switched back and forth several times. The Mariners made bone head plays and brilliant ones. Boston made bone head plays and brilliant ones. And then, bottom of the 9th, Boston ahead, the Mariners tied it. Ad with two outs and two strikes, the Mariners won. It was just fucking amazing and so fun.

The people next to me told me at the last game that they had sold their tickets. The young couple who bought them were just the best seat neighbors you could ask for. Seattle people who rarely come to games because they are Red Sox fans. They had a lot of fun and a lot of questions about the park and people and knew a lot of baseball and were just charming as they could be.

And even the food was better than usual.

All in all, just an amazing night.

They play again today at 1. I slept like the dead. I woke up at 7 which was really late for me and then went back to sleep for 2 more hours.I think Biggie was about to call 911.

I'm thinking about making a grocery run before the game. My list now has gotten pretty long. My freezer still has food in it but it's stuff that needs 'go with' stuff. I'd love to do it at a nice Safeway but, the Safeways near here have all gotten pretty scummy. You have to get farther out in the 'burbs' to find a decent one. So I think I'll go to the Red Apple which is fairly close and has most everything on my list.

Plus the Red Apple is a neighborhood market nestled between two really large black churches and on Sunday mornings, it has the special attraction of a being like and Easter parade. The older black women come in dressed in their finest church clothes and magnificent hats. I used to find an excuse to go every Sunday. I don't know what it will be like post pandemic but I sure game to find out. I'd love to see some of those fine lids again.

My elbow is healing. Whew. It's twinges when I move it wrong but it's no longer screaming. Yeah.

ok off to the store.

A much better way to get the fans they need would be to have an owner who recognizes that putting a quality product on the field that would actually provide entertainment value does much better than squeezing every nickel possible from the fans and sponsors.

Our area's major-league-postseason-farm-team with the revenue issues is at least trying to get by by recognizing that finding and developing young talent which can then be sold to deeper-pocketed teams can be a valid strategy for remaining in business. And they've proven to be quite good at it over the years. Better news is that the perennially financially strapped city whose name appears on their uniforms has finally been presented with a ballpark plan that doesn't hold them up at gunpoint, so they can move out of the last active multipurpose outdoor stadium in US professional sports. And if they can get the infrastructure issues sorted out, it might actually happen before the team packs up and joins the city's former football team in their new city. That location's always been a hot rumor.

I would love to see all the church hats. My church is now explicit on the website that people should just come as they are - no need to dress in anything but comfortable clothes. That’s the sort of thinking that had Laurette (out minister today) decked out in her bright red sneakers. It was fun, but definitely a little distracting.

I'm glad your elbow is feeling better.

I LOVE the way the church ladies dress. When I was in my early 20s I worked in a shoe store that also sold Sunday hats. It was SO much fun. The women matched their shoes and hats and they were all lovely to work with.

Saturday's game was kind of like the mirror image of Friday's: just about as long, lead going back and forth, Red Sox pitcher on a tightrope in the 9th; only difference is that Saturday's pitcher fell off the rope.

Sunday's was more my kind of game,

I'm glad we don't have any more West Coast night games.
