Forgive me, Daddy
Jun. 14th, 2022 02:07 pmGrowing up, our house was as anti-union as you could possibly get. The sins list had murder and unwed pregnancy as not nearly as horrible as joining a union.
Poor Daddy had his own Sophie's choice when his only nephew not only joined a union but joined it enthusiastically, joyfully and gratefully. He had unrealistic expectations of and for Bill from the get go but joining a union again... under murder on the list.
I got a note from SteveTheLawyer today. He received a check for more than $4k from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to help with death expenses. His note was to find out if he should cash it or return it. He explained that Bill had - on several occasions - instructed him NOT to file a claim for the money. And, if they sent it anyway (like they did) to send it back for families who needed it. SteveTheLawyer's note also included a whole paragraph about how that even though that's what Bill told him, we (me and SamTheFriend) were under no obligation. And the $4K would go a long way towards paying off the legal fees, for instance.
I sure appreciated his care with it all and even giving us an out. But, no, if Bill wanted the money returned, please send it back.
So now I have, in effect, given nearly $5,000 to a union. I hope they have a bar wherever Daddy is cause if he catches wind of this, he's going to need a stiff one or five for sure.
