Pondering probably the end

So I just found out that my options for a Mariner ticket next year suck. That fancy new space that they dangled in front of me? With the better view, better seats and more space and shade? Not an option. It's only for those who buy tickets to every single game. No way. I don't even want to go to every single game.

I buy a 20 game package in the Diamond Club. But, afternoon games in July, August and September suck if the sun is out. And the price is going up 40% to $9,000 for those 20 games. I think $450 per game is just out of my comfort zone.

My nice young sales guy told me, originally, that there would be seats up there for 20 game packages but, apparently he was wrong.

Oh well. I've enjoyed my years there. I'll just have to enjoy the heck out of the rest of this season.

well, in fairness it's seats + parking + special entrance + early entrance and a huge buffet dinner and in seat service and all the food and drink you can consume included.

That is a ridiculous price increase! I understand raising prices some, but good grief! I'm assuming it would be even more per game if you bought just a few, like a birthday gift to yourself or something?

not ridiculous if you can sell it which they can. yes, i can buy a ticket if i want but not this kind of luxury seat. they are sometimes resold but rarely as a single ticket.

Weird that they either can or think they can sell that. At that price point it would have to be corporate tickets.

Mostly corporate but it's mostly corporate now. Still there are and will be a lot of non-corporate. The couple who sits next to me will be back for sure and the family of four behind me and that's just two groups.

Yep. The sports biz is good. It ain't bread. It's not recession proof but close. AND Seattle has the All Star game next year so those who buy these premium packages will get first dibs at all the activities.

It's actually pretty smart of them to do this now - revamp and raise the prices.

If the new space is shaded, that would make the afternoon games less sucky? Could you re-sell the ticket for the games you don't want to go to - and subsidize the cost of the seat down to something more reasonable for what you do use? I guess selling a single seat is probably not that easy though?

Oh - I just looked up how many games are in a season - 81? That's a LOT of games!

Yes the new space would make afternoon games a guaranteed delight instead of a crap shoot.

Yes, I could offer up tickets for resale. Whether they sold or not would be iffy. And they would have to be priced more than $500 each in order for me to break even. Buying tickets to resell isn't a good value proposition, really. And, yeah, single seat makes it harder.

i know, right? but, you know, i think even price aside, i'm just kind of over it. time to move on and find luxury somewhere else for a change.

I’m with you. I couldn’t bring myself to pay that kind of money for a ball game (or even an amazing ballet experience). Too bad - It has been a fun and entertaining run to read about your baseball Diamond adventures.

That is quite a price rise. I can see why you're put off. I wonder how many others will be as well.
