One step forward...
Jun. 30th, 2022 04:08 pmI was so proud of my financial success this morning. And this afternoon I learn via cryptic info in the building's newsletter, that we will soon have a special assessment. We have to have the exterior brick of the building fixed (tuck pointing) and the terraces up on the 5th floor (so there won't be more raining in my living room). I know we have building reserves for some of this but, likely, not for all. So owners pay.
We haven't had a special assessment in a lot of years and I believe that the expense is valid and paying via special assessment makes more sense than draining our building savings... it's still difficult to shell out surprise $$.
At least all I have to do is pay. I don't have to bear the stress of deciding how to fix, locating and deciding on the fixer, supervising the fix and taking responsibility for it. And I have the money. So it could be worse. But. Yuck.
We probably won't get more details until the end of July. My guess is that my share will be in the neighborhood of about $5k. Sigh.
