The morning after
Jul. 13th, 2022 07:06 amI did not stay up all night worrying about this but I did wake up extra early and took it to a spreadsheet. I have two decent options. I am glad that the Mariners priced themselves out of that expense or I'd be in much worse shape. Now is not the time to be cashing in investments. I am very lucky.
The more I think about the whole thing, the rottener it gets. Both projects have been in discussion now for a few years. That's no surprise. The board has always bragged about their smooth management of the funds reserved to handle things like this. Even so, it's not terribly unreasonable to expect us to pay extra for the extra. BUT to pay more than $10k (and in a few cases $20k) with six weeks notice is just ridiculous.
The board's communications skills have always sucked. I've offered to help and given suggestions more than once. But, when it was clear that 1. they saw no problem so then 2. were not interested in input or help, I just shut up. I seriously doubt this latest example will enlighten them. I do hope, though, with the darkest part of my soul, that they suffer many slings and arrows.
I want to send an email expressing my displeasure to the board, but I'm not going to. I'll let others do the dirty work.
The real killers are 1. the common areas of the building need an upgrade badly and now, by the time, that money is collected or assessed, the building will really look like shit and 2. godhelp'em if they give us the HOA dues raise that they normally do next December.
But on with my life.
Today is baseball day here. A double header starting at 9 am.
I bought the fixings for proper taco-y burritos yesterday. So today, I'll cook up the meat. The plan is to freeze it in burrito sized portions for easy grab/nuke/roll and eat. Also the freezer needs a re-org so I'll do all that while the games are on. And crochet. And maybe some laundry.
Should be a fine day... in air conditioned comfort. (God, I love my air conditioner!)

Date: 2022-07-13 05:05 pm (UTC)my experience is that the board is pretty sealed. i've offered to help on big projects and small and received the "we'll let you know if/when we need you" then crickets
the current board members have not lived here very long (5 years is the longest). they may be intimidated by old timers (i've lived here 30 years) or old people or whothefucknows.
