SteveTheLawyer called
Jul. 13th, 2022 12:56 pmChase Bank is being a snot about the money in my cousin's bank account. Even though Steve has been there multiple times, filed all the documents needed, signed everything they asked for... at one point, they said ok and he made arrangements to move it to an account of the Estate Trustee. He ordered checks, got temporary ones and paid the utility bill. Both the utility bill check and the check to pay for checks bounced. Chase said they would not fund the account until bogusstuffhappened. He wrote a strongly worded email threatening immediate legal action and that was, apparently, what they needed. We hope. They have said that he can have the funds in a cashier's check today and he's on his way to get it but until he has it in his hand...
And while Chase's is being stupid, the house got broken into. Steve went by this morning and discovered the front door open and the back door broken. (You can't really see the front door from the street or the back door either so it's not quite as bad as it sounds but still.) He called the police and the police told him that they did it. Apparently, a few people called them and requested a wellness check.
Aside: Steve and I both thought that was really lovely, that he had friends who cared enough. Steve got the contact info for the people who called and he contacted them which was really nice of him.
And Why the fuck did the police leave the damn door open???!! Also, apparently, without a funeral home's involvement (crematoriums do not count, I guess) Oklahoma does not record deaths in a way that the police can access them in a timely manner.
Also Steve found more guns! And there's a shitload of ammunition in the house - the one open to the public for godknowshow long.
Steve has an ex-police friend he is meeting at the house this afternoon as well as a locksmith/door fixer. The ex-policeman's job is to remove any and all guns and ammo. Today. That just makes me crazy to even think of that stuff there unsecured.
arugh!!!
Steve texted me photos of some jewelry he is sending me and some photos he found.
The photos turned out to be my grandmother and grandfather. He was a jolly sweet man. She was mean as a snake.

Yes, it would be ever so cool if I could inherit $15,614.67 but so far, the cash is going to pay for fixes, locks, gun safety, dumpster rental, house purge and whoevenknowswhatelse. I just hope there's enough left over to pay SteveTheLawyer. That bill is not going to be pretty. It will be totally worth whatever it is, but oh is it going to a whopper.
2 hours until the next baseball game...

What precious photos!
You saying that about your grandmother makes me wonder what she endured in her life to cause her to be that way. Relatives' stories from the past interest me.

Date: 2022-07-15 02:28 am (UTC)That makes me really sad that her family disowned her after marrying your grandfather. And then later having to give up her US citizenship :(
I wonder if she ended up having a soft spot for you even if she didn't show it.
Our relatives went through such challenges & traumas. Everyone has a story. Thank you for sharing one of yours with me <3
