It's hot. Not Africa hot or even Texas hot but still too hot to go out unless I really really need something which I do not. So today and all the days coming up. The coolest day in the forecast is a week from tomorrow which is also my next Mariner game. Thank you, universe!!

I often say that one of the giant benefits of getting old is having no more shits to give. Letting go of stuff - mental and physical. Yesterday, I thought about contacting one of my neighbors about the assessment mainly to measure my reaction against hers. But, then, like the decision not to bitch to the board, my old age kicked in. The problem is the board did not plan well and did not communicate well. Would anything I do change either of those things for now or even next time? Nope. I could sell and move. Or I could take an active role - get on the board. Or I could just adjust my attitude towards things I cannot change.

I'm picking door number 3. If I were younger, my choice would be different for a variety of reasons but I am not younger. So all is cool here.

Last night, I had another revelation. I have a food processor now and a blender so I can make gazpacho!! It's not difficult to make but way easier with machinery. Next grocery visit. I have plenty of food on hand so it will be a while but yum.

I have a host of little house chores to do today. Nothing big but it will be nice to get all the little stuff done. Baseball isn't til 5. The Mariners have now won 10 games in a row which is getting into dangerous territory. When you follow a team that sucks (me for the past 30 years) your hopes rarely get high. And also you rarely get that disappointed. This is dangerous ground we're treading on now.

I'm still enjoying The Library Book by Susan Orlean. I said it was Tracy Kidder-ish but really it's more of a hybrid - Kiddder + Mary Rosch in the library world. She's done an amazing job and it's a great read.

I picked up Showtime for a couple of months with the $.99 special so today I'm going to start First Ladies and maybe Super Pumped.

But first the treadmill and then a shower.

i read that at the recommendation of a friend who is a librarian. I'm finishing up Billy Summers.

Hot here too, increasing to 92 beginning of the week. I will get out for my walk before dawn, but that's about it.

The local farm team has a star in town tonight. Jacob deGrom is on his way back up from rehab. The game is sold out.

It was as hot here yesterday as the highest temp in Africa.

Nest is always trying to up our inside temp to 78 and I periodically manually push it to 75. We go back and forth. I've been letting Nest win and just staying still under an overhead fan. It is OK. Saves us money and the state electric company keeps the power on. A fair deal.

We never go below 75. I'm terrified of killing my A/C so I don't make it work too hard if I don't have to. Plus we have ceiling fans in every room so that makes a big difference. And lots of shade.

This puts me in mind of our first trip to Africa – specifically Tanzania and Kenya – in May-June of 2008. Most of the trip was at moderately high altitudes, so it wasn't that hot; we got home to be greeted by a New England heat wave, perhaps unusually so for early June, and we said "We should go back to Africa where it's cooler".

I remember 1975 Maine summer when it was over 100. And, needless to say, zero A/C.

I love your description of the effect of aging on letting go. I have experienced the same phenomenon, maybe partly due to having had cancer, but also a reflection of my age.

It's friggin wonderful to not give a f_ck. I find it so helpful in my job. I wonder if there's any possible way to have this attitude when younger. Probably not. Maybe we have to earn it.

We've been enjoying the Rays vs the Red Sox series in Tampa. There are some very, very frustrated Red Sox players in Tampa right now. YAY!

When you've supported the England cricket team nearly all your life, you develop a pretty thick skin! Mind you, they've started winning a lot more recently too, so maybe there is something going on... ;)

Now 11, and they're a game ahead of the Red Sox. They can stop now, please.

Well, maybe not, considering how we've been playing within our division. (That's on us, though.)
