magic carpet ride
Jul. 15th, 2022 08:20 amMy house is wall to wall carpet. It was installed in 2005. I had two goals for carpet picking - it had to be comfortable to walk on and it had to hide cat stuff. I picked correctly. At first glance you cannot tell where it is dirty or stained but I know. I should just replace it but the very idea of that kind of upheaval makes me clutch my pearls. As does hiring a carpet cleaner.
Finally, I compromised and bought a carpet shampooer during Prime Day. It's one for spot cleaning not doing the whole house. It's big enough for good cleaning but small enough to store easily. I hope.
It arrived this morning. (And thank you, Amazon delivery guy, for bringing it up here to my door.)
So that's today's chore. Starting with getting the thing out of the giant box.
Also The Split. The last episode of Season 3 will land on Thursday so I am now starting with Season 1. It's on a stream that I pay for by the month so I want to kill the subscription after I finish this one show. BTW the shows I thought I wanted to see on Showtime were all a bust. Glad I only spent $1.
The baseball game last night was dramatic. The Mariners were losing until the 8th when they decided to win it and did. Part of the drama for me is that the one good broadcaster we have is on vacation or something and the two guys on TV were horrible so I watched it mostly muted which isn't that much fun. The radio broadcast was a bit better but the lag between the two is getting worse with every game. If I have twitter scrolling, I can see any big plays on Twitter long before they happen on the screen but last night there was a solid 90 seconds between the TV play and the radio announcing of it. Geesh.
At least they aren't at home. If they were here, and it was cool enough to have the door open, the timeline of a home run would be:
home run hit in ballpark
H-0 - crowd roar
H-30 seconds - twitter reports home run
H-60/90 seconds - home run hit on tv
H-120 seconds + - that same home run announced on radio
I mean, really, sitting in this chair, the Mariners hit four home runs with one swing of the bat.
Tonight they play at 5. In Texas but the same two idiots will be on TV so the broadcast drama will be the same.
But before anything else happens, I need to treadmill.

Date: 2022-07-15 04:53 pm (UTC)are you listening to "real" radio or a radio stream?
I listen to the news radio on my streaming speaker in the mornings - and I'm realizing that the stream is putting more/longer ads in between, so when they say "it's 7:05am" - it might actually be 7:10am because it gets out of sync!
Sometimes I wake up before the radio comes on - and I start it up - and then when the "alarm" kicks in, the radio pauses and then starts up again - and *definitely* doesn't start up in the same part of the news broadcast - so I know it is not in sync - which is super weird to me!

Date: 2022-07-16 03:11 pm (UTC)¹I don't do this to avoid annoying broadcasters; there are times when one of us is in the kitchen preparing dinner or washing the dinner dishes while the other is watching the game; we put the game on the radio so the kitchen person can hear it, and in Cambridge this means the TV-watcher hears it too.

Date: 2022-07-16 03:17 pm (UTC)I know it's out of style but I really like wall to wall carpet - even with the stains, it's my preference over hard flooring.
Moving? Er, nope. neither of you have mentioned it at all! details, plz
