wild and wild
Jul. 23rd, 2022 10:18 amFirst. The game. We lost. I hate Houston. And our best player - the wonder kid - didn't play because that fucking All Star Game broke him. I hate the All Star Game. Julio isn't in today's line up either. Wrist problem. That's way worse than losing last night. But, it's the Mariners so the wrong was, as usual, too high expectations.
It was a full house and there was lots of action. They made a huge fucking deal about announcing the logo for the All Star game next year which will be here. I'm already sick and tired of hearing about it.
End of bitching.
While waiting in line to get in, there were two young guys behind me dressed in brown friars robes with ropes. A group of teenagers came by and pointed to them asking and laughing "are you guys in costume or real??" The to guys laughed back and said they were real. Turns out they are on a summer mission. They wanted to go places where they would find lots of people so they picked baseball parks. Last night was their 27th park.

Later I saw them in the pregame activities in specially made Mariner jersey's. Russ, the head usher stopped by to chat and I pointed them out and told him the story. He then went over to them to welcome them to the park and learned that the Mariners had found them via social media and reached out with special tickets and jerseys! How cool is that?
But that was not even close to the coolest thing.
I scored the most amazing and adorable seat neighbors. A very handsome couple - probably 60ish - sat down in the seats next to me. They were dressed expensively but with a ton of taste and they each wore huge smiles and the kindest eyes. I soon learned this was their first time in Seattle and their first Mariner game and they are from Puerto Rico! They knew their baseball and were just the best to watch with. They had been on a bus tour of the city yesterday afternoon and had lots of good questions. They are going on a float plane tour this morning. I sure hope these damn clouds clear for them. And they go on a cruise tomorrow. They were having so much fun. She said that global warming had really hit them in Puerto Rico "we don't have winter but these past few, it's gotten down to 70 degrees some days!!" It actually got down to 70 last night and they were really cold. But laughing about it. When it was time to go they walked with me to my front door because they were going to Uber back to the hotel and the best place was on the corner past my front door. They really made my evening special.
After the game they had fireworks and a drone show. It was too loud but still pretty spectacular. I'd never seen a drone show before and am sure that in coming years they will take over for fireworks and become truly amazing. They did a pretty good job last night.

Oh and this morning I got an email that my ticket to the August 7th game sold. I listed it a while back. It's a Sunday afternoon and, as it turns out, it looks like it will be sunny and Africa hot. I made a tidy profit. I am relieved. I have one more afternoon game. It's the first week in September so probably another hot one but I'm going to worry about that later. Oh and actually even another one. I bought tickets for me and my brother to an afternoon game on Labor Day but I made sure that those suckers were in the shade!
And...
That's not the only big news!!
Just as I got to the park last night, I got an email. Pigs are flying for sure. The condo board postponed the assessment ratification! I said it would never happen and I was wrong wrong wrong. After reviewing all the written and verbal feedback over the past 2 weeks, it is clear that there is hesitation...
You just gotta admire a keen sense of the obvious.
The new plan is to use the meeting on Monday for information and questions and answers. There will be no voting at that time. This is exactly what they should have done originally. Still glad I have a Mariners game and so won't be able to tune in.
And speaking of Mariners games, there is one this afternoon in a couple of hours. I'll be right here in my air conditioned living room watching it.

Date: 2022-07-23 07:29 pm (UTC)It was the home run derby, right? Same happened to Vlad Jr. in his first all-star game (2019). He was in the home run derby (broke all the records and didn't even win), and it sucked the life out of him after that for a couple of weeks. He wasn't actually injured, but it took him awhile to get back into form. He's not ever taken part in the derby since.

Date: 2022-07-24 07:17 pm (UTC)Drone shows are the BOMB. There are some on TikTok that are absolutely mind-boggling.
What a lovely couple you've met! Hope they have a good cruise experience.
