swapping sniffs

susandennisLeah (the cat whisperer) said to put the blanket that Biggie sleeps on into Julio's bed and put Julio's blanket into Biggies. This is such a good idea EXCEPT. Biggie sleeps on the carpet (in the closet or under the bed or under the armoire) so nothing to put into Julio's bed. So I cut him a kerchief out of some soft cotton and put it on him this afternoon. He wasn't thrilled but gave in.
He wanted a little snuggle time - I'm still the First Cat, right??? - and got it. And you can see his fine kercheif. Minutes after this photo, he did turn around and tried to nip. So while he looks like an angel...
Julio's been zonked out all afternoon. He rose for dinner and then went back to zonked.
Leah also had this bit of nuggetry which I thought was really interesting:
Julio has a lot to process and remember this is at least the 3rd not familiar place (I didn't want to say strange because your place is a cat kingdom, but you know what I mean) that the little guy has been in his very short life. CATS RELAX ONLY WHEN THINGS ARE BORINGLY FAMILIAR. Its a thing. That is why they do so well in the wild even when they have been house cats. They have all the tools they need to live and they stay hyperalert until they are sure everything is predictable and familiar, so he is just doing his instinctual due diligence and he is probably also not sleeping as much as he normally would due to being in a new place, so when he does relax enough to sleep you may feel like it is too much, but it's not...he is fine as long as he is eating and drinking and the heat may well be contributing to his lack of activity.
