So.. at the last board meeting which was well attended, it became clear that the outraged residents blame the board for the surprised outrageous assessment and apparent out of control budget and maintenance issues.

It was also quite clear that the board's only defense was that the residents "have no idea" and "must get involved" to solve the problems. They said that no one ever comes to meetings or signs up for committees. (Note: I attended every meeting until last February when I just couldn't take it any more. They just loved the sound of their voices and had no clear direction.

At that time, I was on two committees. I had been asked and agreed to serve on the security committee and I volunteered to serve on the communications committee. The security committee met one time - actually here in my unit - a few years ago and never again. The communications committee has never met and my suggestions for better communications to the board member in charge got a "thanks but no thanks".

Last week (10 days after the meeting) they posted a sign up sheet for all the committees.

Now they have a massive problem. Each committee got at least 6 volunteers except for the building/maintenance committee - they have a truck load.

NOW those that cannot manage their board membership, the building or the budget and begged for resident engagement, have it, in spades and will now have to manage that as well. Because decisions by committees formed to guide the committees always work out fine.

Not too much thinking is going on around the management of this association.

My contribution?? I just sit here an snark and judge. Those are my skills and it would be a shame to waste them.
