Last night's dinner was as at a place called Bourbon Steak. I was expecting a quiet place with lovely wood finishings and elegant service and delicious food. For a hefty price. What we got was a fairly loud, not very well appointed and less well maintained place where it took 45 minutes from the time of our reservation to get our first drink. And the service never got better. The steak was tough but it did taste good. The greeter at the door was really nice and welcoming and the valet parker went the extra mile and everything else was somewhere between meh and youarefuckingkiddingme. Fora hefty price.

Live and learn. As Bill pointed out, it is very close to Pike Place Market and if you are a tourist maybe you don't care. I wasn't and did.

We don't have to go back there again.

Yesterday I got an invitation from the Mariners to buy post season tickets. It's a package of 14 tickets including the World Series. NOT in my usual seat, but in the Diamond Club. Unfortunately of the five different sections of the Diamond Club, the seat they picked for me is in the worst possible location (for my preferences). But, that just makes the nothankyou decision easier. $4,640 for possibly 14 post season games (with all kinds of delicious food and drinks included but still. $331 per game. I have until September 20 to decide but I think I have better uses for that $ and watching from this chair on TV will do fine. I think.

And, speaking of TV, I've got the cord cutter itch again. Now that my cable company buddy who made everything so easy has moved on, I think it may be time to move into this century and use the cable company for internet only. The big decider for me is Mariner games. The only TV options for me are Root Sports (local sports channel via cable) or Fubo (streaming).

In the winter, when I only get the basic channels, my TV cost me about $65. In the summer, when I have to buy every channel under the sun to get the Mariner channel, my TV cost me $176.

Fubo (which does not have TBS or TNT or PBS but does have Mariners) costs $65 [except it's really $85 with the Mariner channel which they do not tell you until you set up an account - not nice]. YouTube TV which has all the channels except Mariners, cost $65.

I think I need to try them both out. And then figure out how easy it would be to flip between the two. I will miss TiVo but I'll get over that. I think. And if I hate it, a phone call - with a huge, complicated annoying telephone tree - will fix it.

Today we're off to Redmond for brunch. Then the Mariners game on TV and the Sounders game tonight.

and these two guys to keep each other company.

I do not have cable. At one time through the kindness and generosity of a friend I had NetFlix. Not any more. I do pay for Prime. My antenna channels don't always come in as well as I would like (but I do watch Jeopardy) and honestly, I'd like to watch the S.U. games (because I worked and attended classes there) but...well, I won't poor mouth here. I wonder how some of my neighbors, also on fixed incomes, can afford cable.

Julio is darling and I am thinking you got him to help Biggie have company and not bite you?

These modern restaurants that are so darn noisy! Put the carpet back in, sighh.

I have stayed with cable because without it I lose baseball AND hockey. (sigh) It's a killer, but it's our one luxury, so we live with it.

I just read through two months of your entries, having fallen behind. I am enchanted with Julio. I still can't get over how expressive Biggie is. Your brother's visits are always fun to hear about.

Liverwurst was a staple when I was growing up. My grandparents had liverwurst and jelly sandwiches. Looking back I wonder who came up with that idea, but I remember loving it as a kid.

How disappointing that your fancy steakhouse was a bust!

Could you do something like mlb.tv + a vpn so that you can change your IP to somewhere *not* blacked out for home games?

Tivo is really the biggest reason that I have not yet cut my cable. I can't even get the over-the-air Tivo because we have so few OTA channels that are available it's not even worth it!
