dripping wet!!
Sep. 18th, 2022 09:42 amWhile the Mariners were losing last night, there was all matter of Twitter chatter about the West Seattle bridge opening today. Most were speculating that they would open last night so they could say they opened ahead of schedule.
So this morning when I got up, I checked. And... yep... that's what happened. On Sundays, they open at 8 and it was 7 by the time I got up and got you know who and you know who fed.
I was all ready to swim tomorrow but why wait?! So I went across the bridge to the gym. It was lovely. The tire place still hasn't sold. The bowling alley is sporting a bright new color scheme in paint. The church is having a special something on the 24th. The house on the corner has a brand new fence.
And much has not changed one bit.
For more than four years, I drove by all these places every single day. You learn stuff just by being. And that stuff stays with you.
I parked in my usual spot in the garage. Then I went to the stairwell door to walk up to the street and around to wait for the gym door to open. By this time I was on autopilot and did not see the new sign - a giant red EMERGENCY DO NOT OPEN ALARM WILL SOUND sign. And they weren't lying.
I am so sorry to all of the people in the apartments who were still sleeping or trying to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee. I am so sorry to the fire/emergency people.
Damn that thing was shrieking. I just walked away, out the way I came in. Up the garage ramp. And around to the gym front door.
On weekends, the staff is generally late. I was early so I sat to wait. Some others gathered. Only one I'd ever seen before. An old European guy who spends his winters in Arizona.
A tall young guy arrived about 7 til 8 and not only unlocked the door, he held it open for us all to enter. (Usually they make you wait outside while they do whatever - especially if they are early. But, not him. THANK YOU.)
So I was in the water a little before 8. It felt so nice. I only did 1350 yards and even that took 47 minutes. (Katie Ledecky does that in 10 minutes.) But I did enjoy it very much.
I think I'm going to stick with the treadmill for most days and maybe swim a couple of days a week. (I do need to mind the Seahawks schedule. It's not worth a Sunday swim when they are playing at home. But, hey, there's Saturday!)
And, my haircut was finally perfect for something. I'd also totally forgotten how swimming in a bromine treated pool dries out your mouth. Fortunately I still had some gum in the car (gum is the best fix) but, note to self: Get New Gum!

The Mariner game is at 1. Our top 3 hitters are all out with injuries. Life is hard.
I just noticed that someone has, once again, removed the dangly ball from the kitty tunnel. Guess I'll be trying a new solution to reattach.
Yesterday I did all the laundry so today I have no chores. I'm fine with that. Next week starts the new TV season. That used to be a BFD in my life but now it's still nice but there are so few shows and even fewer worth my time.
I did figure out a doable scheme for watching the Mariners next year without cable and I am enjoying YouTube.TV well enough not to miss TiVo at all. I can probably even get a couple of hundred bucks for my old units since they each include a lifetime of the programming.
Now I need to go hang up my suit before it gets stinky.
