This time last year - actually pretty much this exact time - Biggie chased a bird over the rail of the balcony onto the street, 4 stories below. The corner of my eye caught it. I raced downstairs and found him fairly quickly. I managed to gather him up and get him back up here.

We were at the vet's when they opened. He had one broken paw, one very banged up paw, one dislocated jaw, and a gash in the roof of his mouth. It was a long damn day.

He couldn't move much that first night so I slept with him on the floor. He cuddled up next to me.

He started getting better immediately but kept the leg splints on for several weeks. And many $$. And he's not been out on the terrace since.

But, it's not for lack of desire. This is him right this minute.

Today, however, will be the last time we remember this day for that. Next year we will remember it for the day of the first Mariner post season game in 21 years.

I am grateful to live on the west coast for many reasons but way high up there is time zone. [personal profile] jo and the rest of the east coast have to wait until very nearly the end of the day. I only have to wait for lunch.

I was going out this morning to make a couple of Amazon returns and pick up a bagel sandwich but I just saw a tweet by the city traffic department that warned me off.

The baseball park is opening for a watch party*. And, while I wouldn't go to something like that on a bet, apparently, I'm in the vast majority. They are expecting traffic issue level crowds. PLUS, the first lady will be here today. Secret Service traffic issues.

So I'm not going anywhere.

*They are charging $10 for entry and $10 to park. And the usual king's ransom for their oh so very crappy food. To watch the game on TV. Even tho they do cut the price to $5 for us season ticket holders, NFW. I have a much more comfortable seat right here with a very clean bathroom, no waiting and much better, cheaper food. Thankyouverymuch.

I have house chores and I might cut my hair. Well, not cut, but trim. The top is growing in slowly and the back and sides are suffering from shaggy.

And two wonderful seatmates (including your very own Julio)

Biggie is amazing, and obviously so are you.

I've got baseball with lunch too -- the Guardians-Rays game starts at noon, so I'll tune in for that. It will be a far more relaxing watch than the Jays game.

Well, my MLB teams sucked this year, so I hope yours does well in the playoffs. Who knows, maybe the Mariners will make it to their first-ever World Series!

That's where I am, too (also a dissatisfied Red Sox fan). I'm happy that both the Mariners and the Phillies won (the latter by quite unexpectedly scoring 6 runs in the 9th, largely owing to the Cardinals' closer suddenly losing the strike zone). And I'm not sorry to see the Rays lose, if only in the hope of avoiding any more baseball in that barn this year.

Oh he wants out but 'No way Jose'

I still hate being in Mountain time, after 7 years we often say, "We are in the wrong time zone!"

Norther Idaho is PST but we are Mountain, sigh.

Remembering that game is much better than remembering how banged up poor Biggie was. Thought that will be hard to forget!

Much better to have an anniversary of an awesome game than poor Biggie's injuries. So glad he got better!

Yeah, I rarely even attend sporting events when there's a sporting event. No way would I go to the stadium to watch on TV!

Awww, it looks like he's staring longingly! But, it's not the safest spot for him to go out, is it? Just looking at those casts make me cringe
