At 1:30, I woke up to hear my robot vac quietly telling me it was 'starting to charge'. I thought maybe one of the cats had knocked it. But, then I realized it would not be telling me without the internet...

Could it be?? Yes, yes, it could. That little blinking internet light on the modem may well be the prettiest thing I have ever seen.

I went back to bed but I couldn't sleep. I wanted to internet so here I am at 3:30 am happily internetting away.

My new Meross outlet was the only smart outlet in the house that did not have to be reset. These others are absolutely getting replaced.

The whole Verison US Mobile thing turned out to be a bust. I got my money back and lesson learned. The T-Mobile MintMobile hotspot got steadier. I bought 3 MB of data for $20 and that turned out to be enough to get me through. Although I did watch yesterday's game in very low resolution.

I'm still astounded that my internet can go out for nearly 36 hours with no notice and with what information I could get being so consistently incorrect.

I did end up calling Comcast yesterday. And then remembered why I don't use them any more. The only thing they have going for them is shared wifi service. I don't know how fast or reliable it is and in an outage like this one, it probably wouldn't even be available.

I would love to see a report of Seattle internet services - outages or up times.

But, in truth, I've had this same service now for a lotta years and I can remember only two outages. This past one and one a few years ago that turned out to be for about 7 hours. So maybe it's just my bruises talking.

In other news, I heard yesterday that [personal profile] howeird died last week. He went dark in January when, turned out, he was in the hospital. But, he recovered. I kind of felt like recently, he was going downhill again and on Friday, sent him a 'you ok?' email. He sometimes responds to those and sometimes not so I wasn't particularly worried when I didn't hear. But, yesterday, I got the word. He was one of my original friends on LJ way back 20 years ago.

I think today, I'll take those Amazon returns which have been sitting by the front door for days now, to Amazon Fresh and pick up some food items.

But, first, I think I'll try to maybe go back to sleep for a while.

there are online friends I haven't heard from in a long time whose last entries sound very depressed. I worry about them.
