Another holiday U.S.ity that always confounded my Kiwi friend was that Monday-fication. "If you have a holiday-observed, and you do nothing on the real day, why even have the real day?" I tried explaining, but never really convinced him.

Then yesterday, I saw this on an office in a building on my block. Wonder when the real Independence Day is? And, why the pink D and E - did they run out of yellow?

When is the real July 4, then?

We had rain this morning!! Not much and it didn't last long but it was really rain! Very fun. We're supposed to have clouds this morning and then they are moving on to somewhere else this afternoon. That is the perfect scenario for moi. By the time the sun comes out it will be on the other side of my building from me. Picture me cool.

The Mariners play this afternoon and I have web pages to code while I watch. My kind of day.

What's really weird about this is that Independence Day is one of the few US holidays that isn't subject to "Monday-fication".

Your Kiwi friend is an odd one - we have plenty of those monday-ified holidays. We call 'em observation days. So like, you have 'Queens Birthday' and Queens Birthday Observation day.
