The greatest sound

Mostly it never rains in Summer. So this is really the only time I get to hear rain. There are still leaves on The Tree That I Hate and the rain sounds wonderful as it hits those leaves.

I dug into the cat toy box yesterday and found an old laser toy. It's one that you sit on the floor and it rotates the red dot around at varying speeds.

Another winter toy - there's too much light in here in summer to even see the dot.

Julio has never been impressed with the red dot before but he's totally into this. He chases it in circles and then, when he gets tired, he just watches it. And then chases it again.

So I'm listening to rain and Julio's watching/chasing the dot and Biggie's on bird watch. A lovely morning here.

They both slept with me last night which was good and bad. I hadn't swapped out the small summer blanket and it was kind of chilly. They heated me up but also trapped most of the blanket.

This morning it's strip the bed, wash and rebuild with the in-between-quilt. It's got more heft but also more quilt so they can hog it and I still have some for me.

I skipped the treadmill today. No reason. I just wanted to.

I am going to make a grocery run today. I need produce to go with all my Costco goodies. I can finally now go back to the Safeway and Metropolitan Market in West Seattle now that the bridge is fixed. The stores are both very nice and across the street from each other and carry different things. It's a great grocery block and I've missed it.

Ok Biggie must have called for assistance because the red dot got abandoned and now they are Team Bird Watching. I will never not love seeing the two of them working together.

I used to work in the bakery department of that Met Market when I was 19. Of course back then it was called Thriftway. That job put me through culinary school. The best memory is that there was a dog that would regularly come in the automatic doors and steal a baguette. Years later I met a dude who told me about a friend he had who's dog would mysteriously come home with a baguette.

Soon the leaves will be off that tree.

I had a friend when I first moved here (1992) who lived down the block from that Thriftway. Whenever I visited her, I shopped there (and got gas at Barnecut's).

For the record, I never stole a baguette.
