So... This morning, I got up and checked to make sure no one had an emergency, turned on my Out Of Office's for both work email accounts and set out. My game plan was to stop at McDonald's and get coffee and a sausage biscuit and then proceed on to Walmart and then meet Susan for lunch at her house at 11 and then do Ikea.

First thing that happened was that I forgot to stop at McDonald's. I figured I'd get onto the interstate and get off at the first exit and find one there. Turns out between here and Walmart is a true reverse commute. A lot of places around Seattle really don't have a reverse commute - it's heavy both ways. Not this route. The road going north was packed... mine, going south? Smooth sailing. I figured I'd be bumper to bumper and it would probably take me an hour or a little more.

Next thing I know, I'm very close to Walmart... looking for a McDonald's and not seeing one... I pull into the parking lot and there are golden arches on the Walmart building!! So, in I go, enjoy a lovely breakfast and then wandered around the store in heaven. I know there are Walmart haters reading this. So sorry. I just think it's a great place. Wonderful stuff. I was there before the mothers got their kids out of bed, it was pretty empty except for workers who were exceptionally kind and helpful and fun. I had a great time. I got t-shirts and a bath mat and some kitchen stuff I needed and some light bulbs I wanted that only Walmart carries and this and that and more this and more that. I took my time and covered the entire store. It was fun.

I got done about 9:30 and went on down the road to Ikea. Ikea doesn't open until 10! So I hung out and played games on the Treo and checked email and had some of their free coffee. Then I wandered the entire store and didn't buy a thing. But, I enjoyed seeing what they had and knowing I didn't need any of it.

Then I went to Susan's and met her new kitten. We went out to lunch and then stopped in a couple of shops to just wander around while we visited. She had a job interview - actually they asked her in to make her a job offer - at 3 so I came on home. Work survived without me. The day away was perfect for my attitude after yesterday.

Then [livejournal.com profile] rev_hank came over for my once a month chair massage. It was the perfect capper to a wonderful day. I need to remember to do this - have a day of indulgence - every once in a while. It's heaven.

I have some work I can do but I'm pretty sure it will wait until tomorrow so I think I'm just going to kick back and watch the baseball game and knit.

I'm sure they have wonderful stuff. But their wonderful stuff is destroying American businesses. Is it really worth saving $2 knowing that yo're depressing wages for job categories by that much per hour?

Then I wandered the entire store and didn't buy a thing ...In Ikea?

Oh, Jedi Master, your powers astound. Even when I am not looking, a little of Ikea-this and some more of Ikea-that sucks me in. Ikea is a force I seem powerless to resist.
