Up until this year, I bought a Diamond Club ticket to 20 Mariner games every summer. My seat was 6 rows behind home plate and included... Dinner, drinks, complementary in seat food service, a special entrance with early game admission... and other perks - the first class experience. It was the cost of a cruise and I don't like cruises so cool.

Then, they did a major redecoration and tarted up the place and the price. In fact, they nearly doubled the price. So I said No Thank You and buh bye.

They added a new premium section - The Press Club. The press Club seats are where the actual press used to sit. They are not field level but they are excellent seats. And they include all the benes of the Diamond Club. AND the seats are in the shade for afternoon games (no fun to pay top dollar to fry your ass). BUT to get a Press Club seat, you had to get the whole season. 20 games is perfect for me. The whole season is way too much. Plus expensive. So I said No Thank You.

Today I got an email. You guessed it, they've decided to sell 20 game packages for the Press Club. Am I interested? Actually... YES!!! It's $7,500 which is about 20 percent more than I was paying for the Diamond Club in previous years. But, I'm ok with that.

Press Club details and photos

I'm waiting now to see seat and game options. I have company coming in March and in July. Now I have to worry about schedule conflicts. What a fun problem to have!!

The whole season is way too much.

This! I think even if I won the lotto and could afford season's tickets, 81 games is just too many games. During a long home stand, that would be almost a game every night -- I wouldn't want to go out every bloody night. I figure the only way I could handle season's tickets would be if it was a group buy with at least two other couples, so we could share, alternating games or series or whatever.

Our Fenway Park season tickets are just regular grandstand seats, and it's a weekdays-only subscription, so 53 games rather than 81. I share them with several other people, but some of those people have decided to wait until COVID is over, and this leave me with about 40 games, which is way too many for us (we could afford it, although I'd rather not, but we just don't want to go to that many); normally we've ended up with about 15, which is perfect. The last two years, I sold some of the ones I didn't want (at a slight loss) on StubHub, and just ate the others. This year, I'm going to make a serious effort to find other partners who want a useful number of games; I'm hoping the retirement community we recently moved into will prove a fertile source.

It sounds like they weren't able to sell all those Press Club tickets for a full season, and are now desperate to get whatever they can out of them.
