So. When they cut the holes in the wall, they saved the plugs they took out so patching them back in would be easy peasy. But, then, they did not leave the plugs with me. Or if they did, they hid them somewhere.

I was also not at all impressed with the How To Operate The System instruction that I got. Turns out I have questions. Plus the guy who showed me when I asked didn't seem to really know much about how to operate it. At least I have Reddit.

The inspectors came early. They gave the mechanical inspector bad info and he spent 30 minutes at the front door trying to call me. Finally, he called the office of the company and got the number. I won him over but really, don't fuck with inspectors. He also found that they did a piss poor job of the drain and will need to come fix. So no pass.

AND he told me that there was a third inspection - refrigeration. First I've heard of this.

They say that your feelings about people or a situation or an institution are based primarily on the last interaction you had with them. Which maybe why I'm not too pleased with these people today. I sent a note to the guy in charge of me "I will be your point man through the entire process" listing my issues.

Oh and, turns out, the holes in the wall need to stay holes until the inspections are all over. According to the inspector. This was not mentioned by the install guys. Maybe the fix it guys will be too busy to schedule me soon.

This is why I hate this shit. I would love to have my kitchen redone. I have the money. But there is no way in hell I'll ever find the patience. So the old grubby kitchen will remain old and grubby forever.

Busy morning so far. And it's not yet 10 am! Next up is SteveTheContractor at 2. I should probably go get on the treadmill.

Now I'm picturing Julio getting into the wall through one of those holes.

Have some sympathy from far away. This, too, shall pass. And when it's finally all completed, you'll love the results.

It is probably the first time they have ever done this. Otherwise they would have a checklist for finishing what is a repetitive project.

Which, btw, is something that the previous two tenants could have had for you.

The last and only time I ever had an inspection the city of Georgetown inspected my plumbing on the Williams Drive house. Longish explanation but that is the only thing they had to do. They flagged something or other about how one of the toilets were seated and the contractor had to come back and fix it.

First time I used the sink I discovered that the plumber AND the inspector had not noticed that the sink drain was not connected. Turn on the water and it flowed unimpeded into the lower cabinet.

My interaction with city inspectors was complete.

I hate the home repair/upgrade/maintenance business. This, plus my bank account, is the reason my house screams 1950's and 1970's and why all my house talk starts with 'some day'.

You hate it, and as awful as it is, I believe you're really good at it. It helps that you are literally invested.
