My Elden's
Jan. 19th, 2023 02:54 pmI thought of something last night that I really wanted these guys to do OR tell me the words needed to find somebody to do it. They were game. So Whew. They finished up everything but, of course, hit two snags.
One was the green on the wall in the bedroom. I have two greens and I gave them the wrong one and he'd painted a lot before he said something. So it was repaint with the lighter green or do the whole wall with the bright one. I picked bright and I love it!
But, then, the paint I bought from the bitch yesterday turns out to be off. If it were not in the living room right next to the window, it wouldn't matter so much but it really stands out to me. So the three of us discussed. I said I'd just have to find someone to paint the whole wall now and, since it abuts another wall, there are two that need to be done.
I asked them if they knew a painter and they waited a beat and said 'we paint'. After lots of discussion and back and forth - mainly between the two of them in a language I do not even recognize, we settled on a very fair price - cash to them and don't tell SteveTheContractor (who I paid yesterday).
Oh and it turns out now they need more paint, of course. I had told them about my horrible time at the paint store. So when we decided on the new paint job, they said "Don't worry, I'll stop and get the paint on the way home. You don't have to go back to that place." So nice!
They helped me get the pictures down and get ready. Tomorrow they will do the walls and the special project.
I started to get the pictures down on my own and dropped a very big one and there was glass everywhere. It was a giant mess. I got most of the big pieces up and then they came in and helped me get the rest and got out their industrial vac and sucked up the rest. It was really nice.
As they were leaving this afternoon, they stopped to say "We will move the furniture all back tomorrow. DO NOT try to do it yourself, Ok? Promise?" Cracked me up.
The work they have done so far is spectacular. You cannot even tell there was ever a space heater in the house or holes in the walls. Really.
After they left, I went to the ATM to get cash and then went on over to Uwajimaya and got a whole bunch of mongolian beef and a giant salad.
Now I home and the house is a mess with all the furniture in the middle of the rooms and plastic on the floor still but it's ok. Tomorrow maybe it will all be done. Maybe.
But I am exhausted and sweaty and sore. And happy to just sit.

Date: 2023-01-19 11:54 pm (UTC)Sounds exciting that you're going to get new paint on several walls, all to the good! With that climate up there, those bright colors must be a real lifesaver.
OK, heed their advice. Do NOT try to move furniture or take down heavy art. We both might be finishing up with the indoor work tomorrow! What a relief.
