I finally - four days later - heard from the whacked out folks at http://www.knitpicks.com/. They assured me that their fucked up registration/buying process RARELY had the problem that happened to me on Sunday. Ok, the fact that they even acknowledge that it has happened before is not good....

They told me to use a different name and different telephone number to register for my next purchase. Yeah, right, like I'm EVER going to buy anything from them again.

Then they told me that my order had, indeed, been placed in this other woman's account and was being shipped out today! But that she cannot see my credit card information. Could they be any more fucked up?? Oh yeah.

The email ended with their 800 number. So I quickly called to cancel the order. I waited on hold for a fairly long time and finally a woman answered. I said that I would like to cancel an order please. And she said "oh. What company are you calling?" ??!!!!!

She did find the order and assured me that I could not cancel it. I asked "If I refused the order will the charges on my credit card be reversed or credited?"

She said - and I shit you not:

"Well, of course, not the shipping charges, but probably you'll get your other money back."

PROBABLY??!!!!!

Un.fucking.believable.

Jeezum crow, that's bad. I'd pat your shoulder, but I don't think that will help.

You are, of course, not going to pay that charge. If it shows up on your credit card bill, contest it. You don't have to actually pay "contested" amounts until and unless the contest is decided against you, which I can't imagine it being in this case.

If I knitted, I'd have said something similar. Not for solidarity but because any place that screws over a customer in a way this big is likely to be Trouble if I have a problem also, and I would no longer trust them.

Since I don't knit, it's sort of a moot point, but.

I think I hear a ginormous can of whoop-ass opening.

What's with: "what company are you calling?"

Maybe you should just change your name. That might be easier then asking a company to get their act together and you know- send the right thing to the right person. Idiots!

hmm . . .

This has nothing do with this particular entry, but I'm curious about something: have you noticed anything different about Google search results for pages on your journal when you use the search engine you put in your user info page?

Whenever I search for anything at all on mine, the results will never come up with anything more recent than January 06. I thought perhaps yours would be working better than mine, and maybe you could tell me what was different -- but I tested it and got the same result: I searched for both "yarn" and "dentist," two things I know you've written about recently, and in both searches only 2005 results came up.

Were you aware of this? I find it a little annoying myself. I thought maybe it had to do with LiveJournal's layout changes, but my account doesn't have the box checked that asks if you want entries not to show up in web searches.

Okay, well never mind (maybe) -- I just tried the LJ Seek feature, which wouldn't work for shit the last time I tried it, and now it seems to be working perfectly, with results that come up in a much more aesthetically pleasing way than the Google results ever did. So I guess as long as that's working, I don't give a crap about the Google one anymore!

So, you know, sorry to waste space on this entry . . .
