In the Summer of 2021, I had to pay the city $2,600 and some change. They designated this neighborhood and a large part of the city along the waterfront as a Local Improvement District that they could levy this special assessment tax and they did.

There was a giant protest that the city ignored. We paid.

Today a judge said that they fucked up and they have to pay it back. It will be in the courts for years and I'll likely never see a refund but it's nice to know that some judge is on my side.

So that money (or someone else’s) now becomes part of a legal system improvement fund while the city fights this. Swell.
