Week's end
Apr. 21st, 2023 07:45 amSo I sent an email to the lawyer's office that was 10% of the snotty I wanted to convey asking when I might expect the documents promised. They arrived within the hour. Not impressed. But not pissed off enough to tell them to go smoke a rope.
The first one is an agreement to hire the firm. They want $1,500 on account (to be billed against) which is reasonable and expected. The second is a long list of estate questions. The email said I could fill them out and mail them OR, if I preferred, they would send a link to a secure file drop system. I replied that I wanted the online option and as soon as they sent the link, I'd have the payment document ready.
Crickets.
So I went ahead and filled out both and now I'm just waiting for them to collect. It was interesting to fill out the questionnaire. I don't want to die with a whole lot of unspent money but I also want to make sure I have enough for whatever my needs turn out to be. I kind of feel like my life will continue as it is until I drop dead. Lots of money left over. OR some medical something short of dead will rack up lots of bills. OR some medical something will require I move into a care home. It's that latter that I really want the $$ for. If I have to move, I want to move some place nice. Very nice. And presumably very expensive.
So, in my case, I'm not all knotted about what happens that the money I didn't get to spend, if any. I'm happy for my brother or his sons to have it. So that part is easy peasy.
Interestingly, Washington state has some cool laws. You can designate a person or persons who will NOT be allowed to challenge your will OR your medical directives. This is perfect for me. My sister, if she could, would gleefully at least try to insert herself between me and/or my estate and my brother. But, by my naming her specifically, she will not be able to at all. This will help my brother out for sure.
My old will, etc, is nearly 15 years old and would work but I'm glad I'm getting a redo. This one should carry me to the end.
We got the notice from the building manager that next week we will not be able to get our cars in or out of our garage. I'm not sure I actually believe this is true but, in case it is... IF we want to take our cars anywhere, we need to get them out by Monday morning. (The note actually said we had to get them out by 10 pm Sunday but that part has less credibility than the rest.) The football stadium is giving us free in and out parking for the week but it does not start until 9 pm Sunday. We have to pick up parking passes, if we want them, today.
Way to plan, by the way. I can imagine there are a fair number of folks who will be caught by the short hairs on this whole thing.
But, anyway. I'll get my pass today and then, probably, go find street parking early Sunday. (Street parking is free on Sundays.) Then move my car to the football lot on Monday morning and play it by ear after that.
Should none of this work out, my being without a car for a week is truly NO Big Deal.
I do think I might go to Goodwill today. I have a small cache of donations and I could stop in the store - steps.
Also today, I will finish up the test knit I've been working on for weeks. It's actually turned out pretty cool. I'd never do it again but at least I'm getting a nice vest or gilet out of it.
Time now to get up and get dressed and down to get that parking pass.
