Old friends and new
Apr. 23rd, 2023 07:27 amLast night's game was fabulous even outside of the baseball itself. I ran into Shay, my seat neighbor from last year. She and her dad are considering moving up to the Press Club next year and were checking it out. It was fun to run into them both. Such nice people.
The Press Club staff are getting familiar now and used to seeing me. They've started asking me my name and so now I need to learn theirs which is fine but a bit daunting. Michele, Paula and Yung are at the front desk. Yung had introduced herself at the preseason reception and last night she said "I remember you from then. You came with Frank, right?" Holy crap, she's good.
John, the bartender, introduced himself and his two other bartenders, Michael and Kim. Jodi, I met at the last game, works the merch shop. She drives in every game from Port Ludlow which is easily 2 hours each way. Geesh. And Doug is a great usher who has known my name since day one but I only managed to find out his last night.
David is my favorite waiter. He worked the Diamond Club last year and is just fun.
Today's assignment is to fine out the name of the wonderful Irish waiter who always always, gives me a giant hug whenever she sees me. I think it's Siobhan but that seems a little too obvious.
Last night they were all working their buns off because they were short staffed. Most of them work other sports venues when they aren't at the Mariners games. But, last night, there was an MLS game, an NHL play off game, all at the same time and resources were stretched thin. But, it was fine. Just fine. They are all so good and fun.
And, as I rolled my scooter into the elevator, there were all sorts of 'night, Susan!'s coming from behind me. Now, it's the place where everybody knows my name!!
And... the game was a good one. We won but it was touch and go several times.
And... the really good news is that no stomach ache or runs. I am pretty sure, now, that it was something in the bottled iced tea. Easy enough to stay away from. It wasn't even that good. So yeah!
This morning, when I got up, I went down and got the car and moved it to a street space. Street parking is free on Sundays - until 8 am Monday. The free parking in the stadium lot doesn't start until 9 pm tonight. I doubt I'll be bothered tonight so I'll just get up tomorrow morning and slip right in there.
Today the game starts at 1:10 so I'll leave here a little before 11. The brunch menu looks very excellent. I thought it might get a little tough having a day game just after a night game, but I'm looking forward to it.
