I have loved my air conditioner since the day I got it.  But, today I want to have its babies.

For the first 14 years of my life, I lived in houses without air conditioning...  (in:  Brooklyn, New York; Teaneck, New Jersey; Des Moines, Iowa; Kansas City, Missouri and 8 years in Winston-Salem, North Carolina).  Anybody remember the "Cool Air Conditioned Comfort" signs on movie theaters?  Back in the day that was way more important than what movie was showing.  We didn't have malls but we did have movies.

On the parts of Route 66 that are still around, they have motels from that era that still advertise that on their signs.
And they have room phones!
And color TV!

Yup. Daddy was working his way up the corporate ladder. He started out as a sales trainee and then got promoted and then kept getting bigger territories (and we'd have to move with every promotion) and finally worked his way up to Sales Manager and they pulled him into HQ (Winston-Salem). He sold Hanes Underwear.... we rode in on a crotch.
