Just got my new car tabs and now I'm good til August of 2024! In Washington state, every year you get a new sticker (tab) for your metal license plate. It used to be that every 10 years or so you had to replace the metal plate but I don't know if that's still the case. Not this year for me, anyway.

On the way back from the mail check, I ran into the worker supervisor who thinks I'm swell cause I don't yell at him. Anyway, he said that plans have changed. Initially they were only concerned with the east side of the building but now they have decided to test the west side as well. They tested a few units and didn't find issues but I guess with buildings falling down around the country, the heat is on for the extra mile.

Even if they don't find any issues, the testing ain't free. More $$ in the special assessment to come... sigh.

He said the way things were looking now, they probably wouldn't get to me until next week.

But, on the up side, I just got a note from Amazon that my free with Prime Grub Hub subscription which was due to end soon will now last until July of 2024. Nice!!

Yeah, a good time for them to be thorough.

Around here they don't make you replace your plate unless it's become illegible. When we bought our current car ini 2017, we got to keep the plate¹ that [personal profile] jwg had owned since the 1970s, but then the next year at inspection time it was ruled that it was no longer good (it was pretty well encrusted, and the background paint was all cracked). It was a tough mental transition to memorize a new plate number after all that time.

¹MA used to require only a rear plate. The old plates had green characters on an off-white background; the newer ones (introduced in the '90s or so) have red characters. At about the same time they started requiring front plates as well, but if you had a green plate you were exempt. We now have two plates. (Plus the old one is still sitting around in the garage in Gloucester, for no particular reason.)
