The Last Swim... until next Friday
Jul. 15th, 2023 07:16 amThis morning, in the email that USPS sends me with photos of what is coming to me today, thee is a very scary looking envelope from the Municipal Court of Seattle. Oh fuck, what did I do???? What court lawyers do I know? I'm too old to do time!
It's actually amazing how many full thoughts one can have in the space of a second.
Then I focused on the address. It's actually addressed to the whacko druggie son of my neighbor's two doors down. He died about 4 years ago. Good luck with that one, Municipal Court of Seattle! His mother was actually the vice-mayor for a while so she can help them noodle that all out.
So glad to figure out I haven't been caught yet.
I woke up this morning with zero back pain. Zero. This is the first time that has happened in a month. Oh, man, did it feel good.
My swim this morning was even better than all the rest. The pool got full so I didn't go beyond my now normal 1,100 yards. But I did take a couple of minutes to do some water aerobics before I got out.
I'm not only feeling it (I noticed this morning that the steps up from the car park were way easier to climb) but FitBit noticed. Today' resting heart rate is lower than my normal (below personal range) and my heart rate variability is above personal range. Both excellent stats.
But, alas, no more swims until Friday. Maybe.
I was thinking that it might be too much of a rush to swim on a Mariner afternoon game day. BUT, today, there was no hot water in the gym showers. So I just stripped my suit off and towel dried and put my big loose dress back on and came home. It was fine. Saved a chunk of time and avoided those uggy showers. So now I'm thinking a swim tomorrow might well be totally doable.
I don't think I'll try it when Scott and Julie are here Monday-Thursday. And maybe Friday.
Playing by ear but my swim mojo is 100% back so I'm not worried about missing a week. I'm seeing and feeling too much benefit to stop now.
Also I thought it would just feel too sticky and gross to not shower til I got home. Nope. Feels fine and my shower is much nicer. And this cuts way down on the amount of stuff I need in my swim bag. Win win win.
I even stopped and got an egg mcmuffin on the way home. I had not had one in years and this particular one was freakin' delicious. Maybe this will be my after swim thing instead of showers!
My parents liked fine foods and elegant dining a lot. But in their later years*, they also loved McDonalds. My Mom loved their fries. The last visit I ever made to her she had a long list of things she wanted to do while I was there. At the top was McDonalds fries. I think we drove through for a 'hit' every day I was there.
My Dad liked McDonalds food but really admired their efficiency and cleanliness.
I often think how they would both marvel at today's McDonalds. Mom could have her fries delivered!!! And Daddy would love the order ahead and pay and then eat in, pick up in drive through or have it brought to your car. And easy customization.
Their minds would be blown to bits.
*We did not have fast food restaurants in Winston-Salem, NC until the mid-60's. Our first was a Burger King and it was on the other side of town. Total destination treat. We loved it. I left for college in 1967 and that Burger King was our only option still.
No plans for today beyond the usual.
But, before I get with no plans, I do need that shower. I'm feeling dried up and crusty.
This New Yorker cartoon is cracking me up and has been since I saw it early this morning.

But I'm sure no one got a bigger kick out of this than Hiaasen. I haven't read a Hiaasen in a long time. I need to see what's new with him.
Probably. I could work them in but I'd be rushed and stressed and that's not what swimming is about for me. Tomorrow I have a Mariner game. I going to decide in the morning for sure but probably I won't swim.

Date: 2023-07-16 10:28 pm (UTC)My dad LOVED McDonalds. If I ever asked him where he wanted to eat on a non-holiday day, he would say McDonalds. For his birthday, Father's Day, etc. he always wanted to go somewhere for prime rib, lol, rather opposite ends of the spectrum. ;)
I'm wondering if I should start swimming again . . . Or really more like walking in the pool or doing exercises with a pool noodle, as I am an abysmal swimmer. I really don't want to join the Y again, but there is a new swim complex in town . . .
