Finally a win!
Jul. 16th, 2023 04:58 pmMy friends on the Press Club staff were as glad to see me as I was to see them. "You haven't been here in forever" "Well, you guys had a week of non games!"
The cute usher whose name is Young was the first to tell me their All Star Week tales but others did, too. They enjoyed it enormously, it was a ton of work and lots of excitement and pretty much all of them were happy to see it in the rear view window.
They all - and Matt, my seat neighbor who was there - reported that the game itself was so unlike other games. All the seats were filled and once the first pitch was out of the pitchers hand, no one moved. The concourses which are usually teaming with people standing in line or just walking around was EMPTY! The vendors, who planned for huge crowds, were pretty much ignored once the game started.
Matt said he was afraid to even go pee because "all these guys are so great, you don't want to miss a minute".
At last night's game, they gave out Hawaiian Mariners shirts. I wanted one but didn't have a ticket. Today Young asked me if I wanted one "I think I can find you one but you can't tell anyone." She did find me one and wrapped it in an All Star Towel and put it in an unmarked bag and brought it to me and it's a very cool shirt!
AND... we won the game!!! Ray, the single guy on the other side of me from Matt who has barely said more than 2 words a game all season, was really chatty today. Weird. But, fun.
Scott and Julie got to their hotel from Alaska today and just called. They are going out on their own tonight and then will come here tomorrow. They can get in here without me so I told them I was going swimming and would likely be home, showered and dressed by the time they got here, if I wasn't, to come on in and entertain the cats. They are such easy and wonderful guests.
So all is excellent here!

Date: 2023-07-17 12:36 am (UTC)I met Scott in 1994 online. I had been to New Zealand twice and loved it and had a webpage as one did back then that mentioned how much I loved it. Scott was this fresh faced geeky kid (I think he was in his late 20's and we started corresponding. He came to the US for the first time a year or so later and we met IRL. We stayed friends over the years.
In the early 2000's he met Julie, also online. And they got married in 2004. Wow. I can't believe all these years have passed by. They have been over here I think now three times. They visit new places and revisit old and, thankfully, always come here to see me.
