Borrowing Trouble
Jul. 23rd, 2023 07:26 amI have COPD but what I call low level. My ability to breathe easily disappears occasionally. I have massive coughing fits now and again. I don't have enough air to climb a lot of stairs or walk up a big hill (but that also could be because I'm fat or a combo of the two). When I sit still or lie down, I breathe like anyone with good lungs. (And, yes, the cause of my COPD is self induced. I smoked cigarettes for 40 years. So feel free to judge.) But it is degenerative. I will not get better. I will get worse if I don't get hit by a bus first.
Dust gets me for sure. And pools treated with chlorine.
This latter has been a bit of a mystery. I don't appear to have an allergy to chlorine. But, an hour or two after I swim in a chlorine pool, I have no breath to spare. I can barely make it a few feet without gasping. For about a day. My lung doctors have never been able to explain it or understand it and so the remedy is 'don't do that'. So I don't.
The pools I swim in now are treated with bromine and have been fine. I swam yesterday morning. By mid afternoon I was out of breath. It wasn't the worst ever but it wasn't good. I wondered if it was the pool. If it was the pool, maybe it isn't the chemicals at all. Maybe it's the way I swim.
I'm not swimming today because of timing. I am going to the baseball game today with Frank. I don't have time to get trapped by the Swifties. And no reason really to take the chance.
I'll go tomorrow. Swim as normal and see what happens and then figure out a plan. For many reasons, I do not want to give up swimming.
Because I'm not going swimming and we will leave early, I'm not really worried about how we will get to the game. But getting home might be an issue.
The game is sold out and will likely be over about by 4. The Taylor Swift concert starts at 6:30. Yesterday, on the news, they showed the road between my house and the baseball stadium as the game let out - 100,000 people jammed into a small two lane road that is barely bigger than an ally. It looked like a nightmare. No reason why it will be any better today.
We need to take a deep breath and make sure we pee before we leave the stadium and just be cool.
Yesterday's game was as good as Friday's. Come from behind victory. I can't believe we'll threepeat but, hey, ya never know.
The food will be good, that I know for sure. We're sitting in a different section than my usual Press Club. It's the All Star Club. Again with all you can eat deluxe food but cash bar and a different view than my usual. Frank's been to the All Star Club before but I haven't so it will be fun.
It is way early but I think I'll go shower and get dressed and get ready.
