So I decided yesterday I'd see if there isn't a tall-ish teenager in the building looking to make the occasional buck and I put up a flyer on the bulletin board looking to hire someone once every couple of months to do it for $25.

Then last night, I got a wild hair... My neighbor Tija rents out my storage unit for a nominal fee and told me not long ago that she wants it again for another year. So, maybe she'd do it in return for storage unit rental so I sent her a note asking. I

went to get groceries and came home and marked them on the fridge. My new system. I write down the meals that are in the fridge on a little white boardy thing stuck to the front of the fridge and then erase as I eat. It's a great way to remember what's in there.

Our front door phone is still on the blink and Fed Ex is due to deliver a package I've been waiting for so I sat down to see what I could do to help the situation when I got a knock at the door. I answered it and there was the Fed Ex package!! And also a guy from down the hall. His name is Steve and years ago - like maybe 10 - I sold him a portable a/c unit that I was replacing. I know that the next year, he had a system like mine installed and has been wildly happy with it. His enthusiasm was part of what made me pull the trigger. I'd run into him in the garage or somewhere and he'd fill me with success stories. Lower bills, cooler house, quiet. etc.

Anyway, Steve saw my flyer downstairs "I was just on the way down to get your number" and said he'd be delighted to come change my filters. Any time. He'll put it on his calendar - no charge at all. When do I need it done? My brother will do it when he's here so I told Steve, December. He said he'd be out of town til mid-December and I said perfect. I came inside and looked up his email and sent him my number and also asked if there was anything I could do to help while he was out of town - check on the place, get his mail, etc. He wrote back that the mail getting could be very helpful because he'll be gone for six weeks and the post office will only hold for 30 days. So trade! I'm so tickled. Also the long hoodie I ordered that Fed Ex delivered, fits perfectly. Good day!

Steve sounds like the *perfect* person for this job - he knows exactly how to do it! And you guys were able to find a mutual exchange of Things Needing Done!
