This and that
Jul. 28th, 2023 08:52 amI need to get gifts for a few of the staff at the Press Club. The servers all get tipped but there are 4 people who aren't servers who need gifts. And two of them are very special and out of the Amazon gift card league. This morning while I was swimming I hit on the perfect gift for one of them.
Art was a bartender in the Diamond Club for several years and moved up to the Press Club after about a month this season. He was, at first very excited because they let him wear his cap in the Press Club which they did not in the Diamond Club. But then they changed the rules and the cap got canceled. In the Diamond Club, I used to come to him for a cup of ice every game. He always had it ready before I could ask. In the Press Club, he now brings it to me when I first get there. It's hilarious.
So... This is the gift I just ordered for him:

I have another idea for the other most important person there and then I need two smaller ideas for two others and I'll be good. I have til the end of September but Art was the most difficult so I'm quite proud of me for that one.
In the olden days, I used to do all my heavy thinking while I swam. I designed clothes and yarn projects, I planned meals, I planned financial decisions - all the heavy thinking. This time around swimming has been nice but also kind of a slog. Until today. Today a switch flipped and I went back to heavy thinking and the swimming part was not a slog at all. Nice.
The HOA meeting last night was interesting but not the meeting I wanted. I want to know how much and when is it due. At the meeting last night they said that info would come at a meeting on August 10. They will tell us the numbers and set up a meeting to vote on the funding. (This is pro forma since 1. it has to be done and 2. a no vote is not a practical possibility.)
But, we did learn a lot of new stuff. They got the city permits to get started and they will get started next week. The association's reserve funds will monetize the start. It sounds like it will be a good 10-12 months before it is all done. But my side of the building will be done first. And the same guys who did the rest of the work will be doing this work and those are very good guys. If you have to have your house full of workers it's lovely to have the nice kind.
I get a few newsletters every morning. News and updates - national and local. One of them this morning reported:
Driving the news: The fifth annual Lard Butt 1K, a .62-mile event dedicated to below-average athletes and weekend warriors, is coming to Seattle next weekend at Magnuson Park.
Instead of traditional water stations and orange slices, this event — on flat terrain, of course — features thousands of doughnuts handed out at 250 meter intervals along the way and a well-stocked beer garden at the end.
Now I wish I was a runner.
I am going to get that mending done today. I am tired of seeing it on my todo list.
The Mariner game is at 6:30.
Still not a peep from Google support about my broken watch. I think Google support is more broken than my watch.
Later, gators
