Stuff cause I have time
Aug. 2nd, 2023 08:40 amI slept late and I skipped swimming so I'm a lady of leisure this morning. It's a Mariners game day and the game starts at 1, my entry is at 11 but I need to stop at the team store first, so I'll leave here about 10:30ish. It's just before 9 now.
Last night, I let my guests' team win cause I'm just the hostest with this mostest. ha! But, today, will be a different story.
The Minnesota Twins clinched a playoff spot last night. August 1. On the one hand, yeah but that makes two months of baseball games with no goal for winning. Yeah individual records, yadda yadda but still. Speaking as a fan of a team who only needs one hand to count the number of times they have ever made the playoffs and the only team in all of major league baseball that has never even played in the world series, I think it would be really weird to get to the playoff's now.
But... That's just me.
I did a lot of research yesterday of places around here that fill the continuing care retirement bill. And found really only one that I would consider. I looked at floor plans and immensities and corporate structure and goals and mission statements and out of the 15 or so in the area, each one dropped off the list except the last which is really 30 minutes from here but in a nice community. I made an appointment to go visit in September while my brother is here to go with me.
1. I'm sure I don't want to live in Issaquah. 2. I'm sure their waiting list is multiple years so this is all very preliminarily preliminary. But I want to see what my money can afford and what would clearly be the highest quality option of this kind.
My visitor calendar is now free until my brother comes the day after Labor Day.
Ok, time now to get into the shower and get game ready.

My mom was in memory care at Patriot's Landing in Dupont. They cater to retired military. It was a for profit facility. We felt we were nickled and dimed every step of my mom's stay there. We stayed with mom full time when she was actively dying. They were stunned when we asked if they had extra chairs or a sofa. We slept of the floor of her room.
Several years later, when dad was looking at assisted living (he had planned to go to Patriot's Landing), we got him to look into Franke Tobey Jones located near Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. It is a beautiful area on the Sound, some of the rooms have awesome views. The cost was slightly lower than PL and the campus gorgeous. I believe they a not for profit.
The other thing we really liked about FTJ is they provide independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing care options. We were fortunate PL could handle my mom's needs in her final days. We could have been looking for a skilled nursing facility if her needs were more complex.
FTJ doesn't take Medicare, which can be a full stop for some. There is a wait to get the room set up you want. Dad took a studio and moved into a 2 room unit when it came available 8 months later.
Bottom line for me is the energy of my dad's place is so peaceful. Serene. Very little turn over in staff - even through COVID. Dad moved in 2021 at that time they had 0 COVID cases. That changed in 2022, but that's pretty amazing.
Good luck with your search!
