It's that time again

Periodically - about once every couple of years now - I get into a major panic about my access to my data. What would happen if I lost access to my Google account. What if someone managed to steal my access. I'm still trying to get a working Pixel watch back from Google and am not at all - not one tiny bit - impressed with their customer service.

At this point, my life is dependent on Google and that's not good. Always before my answers revoloved around offline storage and a PC (Windows) but now that I no longer need the PC for anything else, keeping it up and updated is a PIA.

So this time I think I'm going to Microsoft. I'm going to copy important shit to their One Drive. But, first I want to ensure I can recover from any issues there. If not, then on to drop box or somewhere else.

That's today's project.

Last night, the Mariners were losing for most of the game until they got a couple of men aboard and then a third one and then the little new guy - who played his first MLB game ever only last month and hasn't exactly set the world on fire yet - hit a grand slam home run. It was quite the moment. Very exciting. My nephew, Matt, sometimes watches the Mariner game and texted me. We swapped some joy over the hit and the game.

Then, this morning, I realized I had been texting with the wrong Matt!! The Matt I chatted with last night was Matt, my seat neighbor!! hahahaha I reviewed the convo and all's cool but still hilarious to me. I need to fix my contact info from Matt to Nephew Matt and NeighborMatt

Also this morning I got my list of games for next year. I have purchased the ticket for 20 of them so I can update my spreadsheet to include those and then add the others when I get them.

Another task for today.

Julio and Biggie are looking to see what kind of trouble they can get into today. Biggie finally settled on pulling down one of the knitted afghans to the floor behind the red recliner. Now he's nestled in on top and trying to keep Julio out. Julio's not giving up.

I need to go trim my hair and take a shower and get dressed so I can do all the computery things now on my todo list.

I will say that you are absolutely right in being wary of google!

I have a google drive account under my personal (non gmail address) that I cannot get access to, because I don't have the password, and to reset the account they want to text a phone number that a) is not a mobile number/can't get texts and b) is not my number any more

I have reached out to them and there is no way to get any support or help - so that account is just...in limbo forever, apparently.

If you really care about recovering your account, maybe this will help. Get a new gmail address and then link your old address to it. After some waiting period, they'll let you change the password to the old account - you'll get verified by email to the new account. It took two weeks for me to get back a client's account but patience paid off.

When you say "link your old address to it" - do you mean use my old address as the "recovery" address? or some other way to link them?
