What a nice morning so far. I have read the newspapers - I never got to Friday's so I did that one and today's in bed with my coffee and then I finished my latest read - Chasing the Dime by Michael Connellly. Excellent. The couple I'm going to visit next weekend are big Connelly fans so my excuse for buying his latest minutes after it came out was that I could read it and then gift it. Good plan.

I need a handful of little grocery things so I think I'll take a little walk over to the Japanese grocery store in the next neighborhood. The Women's US Soccer team is playing two games today in the baseball park. This will likely tie up traffic around here most of the day so I think I'll just leave the car where it is.

When I first moved in here the Japanese grocery was a small little place that carried very little in the way of non-Japanese stuff. They didn't have any dairy products. They did have great produce and fish but I had no clue what the packaged products were.

A couple of years ago they moved into a giant place and about quadrupled their selection. You can not get Chef BoyRDee in there now. But they still have great produce and great fish. Plus they have the most amazing food court where you can get cooked food to go or to eat there. It's a wonderful place. And it's 3 blocks from here.

Also on the hit parade today is getting myself organized for the new computer. Taking notes, copying files, etc.

But, first... breakfast.

What a nice afternoon... Betty has been snuggled up next to me on the couch while I've been knitting and watching tv. Nice.

It's pretty chilly in here tonight and a fire in the fireplace would be wonderful but there's a burn ban on. No rain has left our air pretty uggy. I have to admit that I have 'forgotten' about a burn ban now and again but probably won't tonight. I have gloves, I have blankets, I'm working on an afghan which is at a good size for keeping warm while I'm working on it. Things could be worse.

I did get my computer all categorized and organzied. Before I unhook this one, I just need to run my Outlook Express backup program and transfer that over to the external drive. I'm ready.

I finally sat down with my ballot and voters guide tonight and did the deed. They kept moving my polling place around until they finally moved it where I couldn't find it at all so I signed up to always vote by mail. Very handy.

My neighbor Sherry wants to come watch me set up my new computer. She's a good egg about so many things but she's the most annoying about computer stuff. She thinks she knows it all but if you ask her what operating system she's running she'll answer Netscape. I told her that if the computer gets here in time, I'll be setting it up starting Thursday at 9 a.m. If it doesn't get here in time for that, then it will be Monday at 9 a.m. I'm hoping she'll have to work and won't be able to watch.

I'm taking Thursday and Friday off and Monday. Fun, huh?

My friend from New Zealand wrote tonight that he mailed my Christmas present. I had hoped that we could skip that this year. He's all involved with his new girlfriend and a new life and I was so hoping we could just get by with best wishes. Guess not. Now I have to find something for him - something very light weight since I've already missed the boat rate deadline. I think I've used up all my best light weight ideas. Too tired to worry about it tonight.
