Jes stuff

LJ seems very slow and has seemed slow for the past week. There was one announcement of a problem on like Thursday but otherwise no one's saying anything so it must be my imagination.

My new wig fits better today. I think I'm finding out that it takes about 3 days to get a new one molded to my head. I'm sure readers are sick of hearing about wigs but I still can't get over the miracle of it. I've had crappy hair for 53 years. I walk by a mirror now and get whiplash. Who is that with the fabulous hair???

I'm jes doing stuff here today - laundry, futzing, making my list for taking stuff to Mom's, jes stuff. It's a dark, rainy day out - a wonderful day to be inside, warm, dry and cozy.

Spoke too soon...

Yikes, I just found 5 comments on my post of last Thursday! One came in by email and the rest I found on my own. So I'd like to retract that comment I made about not having email notification problems. Weird. And kind of freaky because before I made the comment about not having problems I did go back and check to make sure I didn't miss any.

Then an hour later they all popped up and it sure looks to me like they were left there on Thursday. You guys probably think I'm ignoring you!

Judith, I think you probably saw my housecleaner on the web cam - long black hair in pony tail. She is a far more active show than I am!

Henry, your wig cam idea rocks.

Tom, my mail man is a wonder. Two years ago when I got laid off, I had been working at a dot.com across the street (he, of course, delivered there, too). Every time I'd see him, he'd ask about the job hunt and was a huge source of great info about the businesses in the 'hood. I told him about an interview I'd had with a company down the street and he said 'oh, I think there's some scuttlebutt on that one. It's not my route but I'll find out.' The next day, in my mailbox was a note "find me, I have info". I found him and he told me that they had been cooresponding with the bankruptcy court and the unemployment office. They folded about 2 months later.

(Now, I know he routinely violates privacy policies and probably some USPS laws but he gets the job done and I love him!)

No telephone?

On Thursday evening a good bit of Tacoma suffered a huget telephone outage. Lots and lots and lots of people had no telephone service and I think some of them didn't get it back until today. This got me to thinking... No telephone... no DSL. My only backup these days is regular telephone modem. And the alternate backup is the neighbors' wireless network which - I'm guessing here - might well be DSL.

I used to be able to use my cellphone as a modem for my IPAQ but my new cellphone won't do this. I do have a USB cable that is supposed to hook the cellphone up to the computer... Ok, I think I'll count that as a backup. Hmmmm Of course, I could go down to the coffee shop with my IPAQ - but they are probably telephone dependant, too.

Ugh. I don't want to think about it. I can check email on my cellphone - that is better than nothing. Just a little better.
