For some reason my contact lens is just not working very well this morning. I tried taking it out and putting it back in and it was a little better but I'm really having trouble reading this screen. It is the kind you toss after two weeks and this is about mid way into week 4. But, I've been wearing these two weekers for about four years now and I generally wear them until they get a little tear or I lose them or they get all dried out. I've never had one lose it's potency! Of course, I have no spares here at my desk. I'll get one from home after my 8:30 meeting.

I went home and got a new contact and wow. What a huge difference. I can see again! I still don't understand how a contact can lose it potency but I've not seen it with my own eyes this time. Little calendar now in drawer with contacts. 6/16 marked "last new". I shall not get caught again. Oh and spare in desk drawer.

Gecko sex

So Susan, the office manager here (one of now 4 Susan's working at this company of 50 people) is at my desk just now telling me the tale of how her cat nearly broke her leg Saturday night. The cat is fine but she and her daughter had to wait in the waiting room at the emergency vet's until midnight. It was apparently the place to be as it was very crowded.

The star of the waiting room was the 60ish year old woman who was there with her gecko. The woman made sure that everyone who came in knew that the gecko's emergency was a prolapsed uterus due to rough sex.

I share this lest you worry that things in Seattle are not 'happening'.... Worry not.

I am not a books snob. Really. I read a lot and a lot of what I read is trash. All I ask is that by page 50, I am sucked in and have found something that makes me want to turn to page 51.

Alas, Harry Potter never did. I tried - twice really. And I really tried. People who's recommendations I generally live and die for love all of the books and rave about them. They are just not for me.

However, I am kind of intrigued by the economic impact of HP. There are a lot of young women picking up knitting needles for the first time to make a Harry Potter scarf. I think a fair number of them would have never considered knitting anything without the HP incentive.

My own little company got a nice fat contract from Borders Books. They hired us to call all of their customers who ordered HP books and tell them when and how to pick their books up. Judging from past one-shot deals like this, it means we'll see a lot of further business from Borders Books.

Those are just two strange examples I know of off the top of my head. And it's not a pet rock deal. I mean if this book that is coming out this week is the last one (and nothing seems to point to its being the last), the phenomena will have already made an indelible mark.

Just amazing. I may not be so interested in reading the books, but I have great admiration for the effect.
