For My Walking Pleasure

I'm so lucky to have such good walking options. I have two main ones and then a fairly infinite variety of side tracks. But, this morning was the waterfront - the tourist end. I'm generally there just after 7 and there is so little going on that I can really get a good look at all of it. During the middle of the day, that same stretch is teaming with tourists and ferry riders and all kinds of action - too much to take in. But in the mornings, it's just nice and doable.

There are a series of buildings that make up the docks. Most are pretty old (by Seattle standards) and have been renovated to house restaurants and shops. This morning I walked out along side one of them to snap you a picture that is pretty representative of what I see when I do the waterfront walk.

Strolling down memory lane

I'm reading a memoir written by a woman I went to high school with... and it is a strange experience. She is exactly my age, raised in circumstances nearly exactly like mine. As an artist and performer, her life has been different than mine. But hanging with Kris Kristopherson and Willie Nelson isn't really what made the big differences. She was faster to figure out the world than I was. I always thought that maybe I had a leg up on some truths but lacked the courage to really act on them. She didn't.

I don't regret much of anything and I don't spend any time at all thinking about what if so reading her book is kind of a guilty pleasure. Plus, she's a pretty good story teller.

Insult to Injury

As the Mariners get routed by Oakland this afternoon, my second least favorite sometimes commentator is on the air to pour salt in the wounds. In the last 5 minutes he has said:

"This time of year the averages will average out." and "The other team is trying, too."

And he's said both of these things twice in 5 minutes. May I please hurt him???????

Plus, I need MacDonald's to pull that commercial with the annoying shrieking mother.

It's bad enough that my entire season is going down the toilet but I have to be tortured in addition?????

I should be understanding but I'm not

First of all, let me say I am in no way, shape or form a football fan. I don't get it. I don't understand it. I don't care. The Seahawks have not had a decent team in a decade. Today, in my front yard, mind you, they won their 2nd game of the season - 2 in a row - an unheard of record for the Seahawks.

So I'm sitting here in my living room whatching my Mariners get the living crap beat out of them and I can hardly hear the idiot announcers because of the cheering fans in my front yard. Don't they have any respect??? It's not fair.

I turned the channel to the Seahawks game after the last miserable out and they had just won. What's with all the team kissing on the field? If I hadn't heard the cheering outside I would have been cluess as to who won... both teams of players were out on the field popping butts and butting fists like it was old home week.

When a game is over, one team should look defeated and one team should look victorious and they should not touch each other. There are rules, people! Holey moley.
