Waiting...

The new new housecleaner said he would be here between 8 and 9.  Of course, he also said he would be here Monday but then, late yesterday, said today was better for him.  Fine.  It's now 8:56.  Why do I think he's not going to work out any better than the last one? 

Sigh.  I'm trying to keep an open mind but it's not easy.  He said he thinks it will take about 6 hours to clean and he wants me here the whole time to show him the ropes.  If I knew the ropes or wanted to know the ropes, I wouldn't need you, buddy.  We'll see.  I think I will likely duck out and go make a run to the GoodWill and maybe to the drug store/grocery store. I need to get more Puffs tissues.  This cold has wiped me out.  Pun intended.

It is decidedly better today - the cold.  I'm still about a week away, I think, from no cold at all but the rest is just clean up.  If I can avoid the can't breathe or sleep cough, I'll be happy. So far, so good.

It's actually cool enough that I could have walked this morning but I slept too late and wanted to enjoy my coffee and newspaper before cleaning boy showed up. Turns out I had plenty of time but I didn't know that then.

No, really, you can... Miko (proun MEE ko) is cleaning away.  He finally arrived after getting lost but he's quickly putting all my doubts to rest.  When I do a thorough clean up of the kitchen, it takes me sometimes as long as 20 minutes.  He's been in there for an hour and he's still going.  My toaster ovens look brand new.  He's a cleaning machine. 

It's not too bad being here.  I'm not having to entertain him with chatter and he's certainly working hard.  His idea is that it is important for his clients to see how he works and that's why he likes them to be there the first time.  Turns out, he's right.  I'm not sure how I'll feel in a few hours. But right now, I think I'm getting my money's worth.  He says he needs 6 hours for the first cleaning.  And if he's going to insist on cleaning all the dirt like he has so far, he's probably right about that, too.

Well, Miko's a keeper.  He cleaned for nearly exactly 6 hours.  I paid him $120.  He's going to come back once a month for $100 worth of whatever needs to be cleaned.  But, seriously, he really worked hard and the place looks like it.  Sparkling!

In other news, the Mariners are having a difficult time losing today's game.  They keep getting interupted by rain.  They are playing in St. Louis.  It's raining again there now and we're only in the 4th inning.  The first pitch was 2 and a half hours ago.

I didn't feel comfortable eating while Miko was here and now I'm starving.

p.s. Miko just called to appologize. He meant to run the toaster ovens to burn off any cleaning stuff and forgot - would I please make sure to turn them on for at least 30 minutes before I use them again?  You should see these damn toaster ovens.  They are cleaner than the day I got them. Yep.  He's a keeper.
