Stock it to me, Baby
Sep. 10th, 2004 08:34 amI'm pretty sure I've gotten Ameritrade and First Tech talking and swapping spit. Yesterday I told Ameritrade to go get some spit from First Tech but I didn't make the 5 p.m. (EDT) cut off so I won't know for sure if it worked until Monday.
But, when the money gets there, here's what I'm thinking...
Sirius
Amazon
Ebay
Target
Hormel
Staples
Krispy Kreme
Yep, I'm getting more KKD. I mean the stuff is cheap and it's coming back. I swear to you... It's coming back.
This will be added to the stock I already have:
Krispy Kreme
Federated Stores
Tivo
I pick my stocks like I pick my horses, by the color of the jockey's silks. It's worked for me before and it's a lot more fun than wading through all that financial shit.
Once upon a time I lived in Minnesota and I worked for IBM and I did something good and my manager gave me a gift award of something like $3,000. I had met a woman the week before who was a stock broker so I called her and said 'so... You want this $3,000???' We met for lunch and she was great. She said 'hey, lets get you something fun. What do you love?'
As it happened Liz Claiborne had just come out with a line of clothes that was perfect for me. They were fun and yet corporate enough to pass at IBM.
And, Hormel - about 20 miles down the road - was doing all kinds of research and testing of easy, fast, tastey food for singles. Plus, I really do love Spam.
So I divided up that $3,000 between Liz and Hormel.
Cut to a year later. IBM moved me to northern California. I got there just as real estate prices were peaking for that decade and managed to buy in when the price was the highest. I needed every dime I could get my hands on. Liz and Hormel had done their part. They had turned my $3,000 to $4,500 in just one year.
Last night I dug out my Ameritrade stuff to see when I actually opened the account - April, 2000. I put in $2,000 and bought and sold some stuff - keeping the original KKD shares. I used to keep hard copies of the monthly statements and found a couple of statements when that $2,000 had swollen up to more than $3,600.

Sadly, today it is $1,239. But does that stop me??? Heck. No.
